I hope those pictures show up... But Anyways.. I am buying myself a new stingray and unfortunatly a couple days before I called the guy about it, the garage door fell n the hood and damaged it... but I have been looking at the different hoods and I saw the NACA Duct Low Rise hood at MAD (www.madvet.com) and I think thats a good choice... any modifications need to be done to make it fit or anyone know of other sites with nice hoods or anything? And... Does anyone have a pic of a vette with the NACA Duct Low Rise hood on it? I would like to see it!!!!

:BOW Thanks!

Man, do I know about garage doors damaged hoods... :(

Anyway, I ordered a new hood from Vanacor (nothing against MAD - I've ordered quite a few parts from them, and been pleased - just wanted to offer another option). It should arrive Tuesday, according to their shipping estimate.

I think you should expect to pay approximately $300-500 to get the hood painted, after you buy one, based on the estimates I've gotten and the feedback I obtained here. Also remember that freight on a hood can get pretty pricey, depending on how far it has to go. I paid a bit over $100 to get the hood from Louisianna to Maine.

If you aren't set on an aftermarket hood, you might want to look for a used stock hood, locally, that you can have re-painted to match your car. Just make sure to inspect it really well, to make sure you won't end up spending an arm and a leg repairing cracks and such.

Another alternative might be right here on the CAC: I believe that Hijinx has an L88-style hood for sale. At least, he did a little while ago, and may still have it. It won't be the NACA-duct hood, but the L88 hood sure does make an impression... I've dealt with Hijinx before, and he's a stand-up guy.

I'd like to put a new hood on our '81, but I do not have a clue what I want ... maybe the L88 ??

I'll be watching the posts here to get some idea's ...

I've got the single NACA-duct hood on my '76, I'll try and find some older pictures (back when the car actually looked good...) to scan in, else can send some digital pics in its' present condition (car needs paint). Let me know if you're still looking for some pics.

I got mine awhile ago, don't remember any tricks to installing it.

I still have my stock '76 hood in storage if you're interested in that. It's in Texas (and I'm not) so it may take awhile to get it packed up and shipped, but if you want to go that avenue thought I'd mention it.

Oh Stallion...

You don't like that hood!? I do like it, but I don't know why it's called a summer hood. :confused :)

thanx for the links...

pancho.. i would love to see the pictures.. and what are ya asking for on that stock hood? got pictures of that stock hood? plus, when would u be able to ship it if i decide to go for it?

What Do You Guys Think Bout This Hood ? I see it says something about Twin Turbo Hood Baffles HB-10$105.00... anyone know what that means? This is the cheapest of the versions of the hoods that look like that...

I actually wouldnt mind another stock hood... anyone got a nice 76 hood they wanna sell me?

P.S. - Personally I think that Summer Hood destroys the "Vette" look... makes it look like a mad max car!

P.S.S. - I was wondering if anyone knows about modifications needed for those ducts on that hood.. i DO NOT want to have modify anything... Some sites mention stuff like that and Its a little concerning.. thats the Biggest Reason for me to buy a stock hood!

P.S.S.S - what do you guys think about the Stinger Hood ? It looks like a 67 big block hood ...
photo3.jpg

"Its the red and white one".... Any drawbacks you can think of ?? Like HARD to clean or anything?

Thanx for reading thru all them questions :eek :pat ;worship

I had a stinger hood on my 69 and it looked great. I received a bunch of compliments on it.

The Stinger is what I decided to go with. Actually, I think that "Hot Rods Super Store" is actually re-packaging Vanacor hoods. They have the same part number (GSS67B), and are charging $25 more...

As far as the "twin turbo" hood, well, I don't think it looks all that great. Unless a car has need of the ducts (say, and actual twin-turbo 'Vette), I think they're sort of "all show, no go"

That's my feeling, anyway.

hey maineshark... do you have ANY pictures of the stinger hood? I would love to see what the hood looks like... do u have aol instant messenger or anything ? (my nick is: andy17mn) ... I would love to see what the hood looks like on a c3... Thanx for the heads up with the vanacor site.. didnt even notice it cause they dont have a pic for it :(

I just ordered it recently. Actually, it should be arriving tomorrow, I believe. So, it ain't quite on the car, yet :)

But if you're not in a huge hurry, it should (I hope, I hope, I hope) be ready in a few weeks.

Email is the easiest way to reach me.

I put a L88 on my 75 looks a lot tuffer .I get good comments on it too .ecklers $549 direct bolt on well almost.oh also give me about 1 1/2" more clearence under neth .

okay.. i found some pictures in earlier posts of the eckler's stinger hood.. I was wondering if vanacor's hood has the scoop cutout or is it just a fake scoop..

The scoop is closed-off. You can cut it open, if you like. The original '67 big block hoods were all closed-off, though.

What would be the advantages/disadvantages of making this open?

Advantage: more and cooler air.

Disadvantage: rain.

OK, here's a pic of what she looks like today....assuming I can get the attachment to work.... Needs paint (among other things....), but I could not find anything scan-able from when she had been freshly painted (.....almost 20 yrs ago !?)

I never considered opening the duct, since it dumps right in front of the A/C compressor.

I apologize, this might not give you an idea of what it'll look like on your 76 since I had bonded on a 80-82 front bumper when I did the paint/bodywork. I do have some 35mm slides of right after I installed the hood (still soft-nosed) which I'll try to get scanned at one of those photo-conversion places.

As far as the stock hood, we can email separately on that if you're interested. If you want it shipped 'on the cheap' then it would have to wait until late Sept (that's the next time I'll be there and could box it up), if you need it sooner then I'll have to get a quote from a freight company to box & ship. Let me know if you want to pursue this, and drop me an email.
