I Was A Good Boy...I Did A Search...But Still Need Some More Info On The Heater Core

I'm proud of you, Mark.:) If you had not swapped the H/C out, you know that the old one would have failed shortly after putting that beast of an engine in...;) That's Murphy at work...:L

Yeah...that Murphy is a real Stinker... I also am replacing the wiper motor...and adding an 80Lb Oil Presure Gauge. Don't feel like a Hot Oil Bath at 70MPH with my clothes on with that 60 pounder.

Like Murphy says... "A $300.00 Picture tube will Blow first to protect a .$50 fuse.

:L

Murphy was an optimist. :(

Murphy does indeed live. I completely forgot to replace the heater core after having my interior and engine bay apart (shame on me) and it let loose today, after 2 days of driving the new engine.

Oh well, if I hadn't worked on cars for so long and was used to things breaking so often, I'd be mad, but it's just funny at this point. ;LOL

Glad this thread is around to help me through removal and installation.

Since I printed a copy of this article out to help me with the installation/removal process, I was wondering about the following statement:

Take the heater core of your choice, and attach it to the metal surround with the two straps and four-ùÓ hex head screws. Place the heater core/surround assembly inside the ductwork over the four studs and replace the rectangular metal clips over the two studs closest to the outlets. Place one of the rectangular black seals over the four studs and then place the larger gray seal over the top of the black seal you just installed.

According to this he describes a black seal below the gray seal for the inner assembly (2 inner seals total). However, the kit I got from Dr. Rebuild only has one inner gray seal as all the other kits out there. What's correct?

According to the diagram and detail descriptions on page 44 of the Doc's catalog (Vol. 29), his 8-piece kit has one black rectangular seal, and his 11-piece kit has two of them (item "B"). The description says that some models used two black seals, some used one. All use only one U-shaped gray seal. I haven't done one of these in many years - can't remember whether the last one I did used one or two of the black seals.

I read the article over and over again and it clearly indicates during the removal process and the installation process that there are 2 "inner" seals, one gray and one black, but the kit I got has 2 black seals intended for the "outer" assembly (if needed) and one gray seal for the "inner" assembly. That's when I got confused. I ended up just following the directions from Dr. Rebuild with one black seal on the outer assembly and the grey seal in the inner assembly. I also searched the NCRS forum for possible answers but came up short. Oh well, being that I had no inner seals at all when I removed the assembly, one is better than none:L
