What do you idle at?

And how about your cold start?

I'm just getting an idea. And also, if you wanted to change your idle speed, where would you change this? Just a guess, but maybe the air/fuel ratio on the carb? If not, where?

Thanks. :)

My 77 is about 1000rpm cold and 550 in gear warmed up, the idle screw is on your throtle linkage just below were your cable hooks up on a q-jet. As far as the air mixture screws they are at the bottom front of carb. you should turn one in until you start to drop rpms, then back it out to the highest rpm then turn back in until you drop about 20 rpms, then the same on the other side and readjust your idle.

On my 1970, i took the choke off of the carb for more airflow and because i only drive it in warm weather. When first started, she idles at 700 rpm after 3 pumps of gas from the pedal. Once warmed up, she idles at 900 rpms. The idle speed screw is at the throttle linkage in the front.

If you are going to adjust the idle mixture screws...wait till your engine is fully warm and use a vaccuum guage for better accuracy in setting of the two screws. Hook up a vaccuum guage to the fully ported intake manifold tap off of the carb, and adjust each mixture screw a little at a time so you get the highest vaccuum reading on the guage. Start off with both screws adjusted out 2 turns, then use the procedure just mentioned.
