Idle Compensator? 73 with AC

Hi guys. Quick question... What was in the correct setup for the 73 with an AC? I posted this elsewhere as well...

I know there was an Idle Stop Solenoid that was used in place of the idle adjust screw on the Quadrajet to keep it from dieseling, but if the car had AC did it have any type of idle compensator to kick the RPM's up when using the AC? In looking at all the wiring diagrams, I do not see any mention of the idle comp. at all, but I do see the idle stop sol. with only one wire to it.

What this tells me is that there was not a AC idle comp originally on a 73 with AC. Please confirm this or enlighten me.

Thanks,

Matt

Are u sure that the solenoid you are looking at is not an AC idle kick up solenoid? Usually they have one wire and mount on the front of the carb. They have an adjustable plunger that kicks up the idle when you turn on the AC. I have not seen a solenoid on a Q-jet that when energized hold the throttle closed to prevent dieseling. Not saying they didn't have them. (I used to use this AC kick up solenoid on my drag car to set the throttle up when stage fro a more controlled burn out at the launch. I used it as I had a line lock and it would let me always stage and leave at the correct RPM.) I am pretty sure the one you are looking at is for the kick up of the idle when you turn on the AC.

Can't help you with '73, but my '79 definitely has one...

vette-dude - Thanks, but I have confirmed that in 73 there was no kick up for the AC. The only thing was the the Idle Stop Solenoid. It was used so when the cAr was shut off the throttle plates could close all the way allowing no air into the system to cause dieseling.

Cool idea using it for a throttle lock on your drag car.

I also just found it on page 6T-11 and 12 in the service manual. They had it under emmissions rather than fuel/carbs. go figure

There was no AC idle solenoid on the 73's. I believe the engine was supposed to handle the extra power when the AC was turned on. On my old 73 I upped the standard idle by 100 rpm and it would handle the AC, but it idled too fast without the AC. After I tuned the engine it did not diesel on cut off, thus the anti-diesel solenoid was not needed. I disconnected the wire to the solenoid and ran another wire from the AC compressor clutch power wire to the solenoid and then adjusted the solenoid plunger for the correct idle speed. Now when I turn on the AC the compressor clutch energizes and the idle solenoid energizes and my Vette idles with the AC on.
