Took my '99 through the car wash yesterday and heard a loud bang on the bottom (front) of the car. When I exited the car wash the car was idling rough. Later got a check engine light.

Initially, I thought something got wet (wires, etc.) and that the rough idle would stop when the car dried out. Today it was still running rough, so I had a look around the engine compartment and found the following:

- air cleaner cover clamps loose
- rubber coupling between airduct and throttle body knocked off at airduct end.

When I put everything back in place the car idled normally. My question is:

Is an open airduct passage, enough to cause rough idle and set a MAF Sensor Performance DTC (P0101)?

Thanks C4C5 it definitely fixed the problem.

BTW how to you get the clamp at the air duct end from spinning around when you try to secure it. After wrestling with it for 0.5hrs, I drilled a small pilot hole it it which allowed me hold it in place with a screwdriver tip - that worked.

HI there,
I most of the time, install a new one.
And clamp it down.
Allthebest, c4c5:hb

I would suggest that trips through the car wash be very limited. I got some fairly serious paint damage (small scratches) on my '97 from the car wash. I once saw the Ten Commandments of Corvette Ownership. One of them was,

Thou shall not take thy Corvette to the car wash.

Does anyone have a copy of those 10 commandments?

Hi ,
your right jim
I seldom use a car wash "except for maybe just a rinse" I guess Im just that way, but i belive the best car washes are done at home BY HAND, although time consuming they are well worth the effort in the long run "can we say birdie poop" LOLOL!!!! Ive found that a good coat of wax or 3 makes them come clean even at a simple car wash"rinse only" and a good chamious, keeps them looking decent , I normally just rinse mine off and drive her down an interstate to dry up the excess water and take her home to clean her in more detail, ..and do the windows/luggage rack/mirrors/chrome strips etc, I think rosey looks great for as old as she is .. but thats just an opinion
LMAO!!!!
Sherry:)
