I'm replacing my distributor points and condenser and coil with a Pertronics Ignitor pointless module and a new coil with built in resistor. I need to remove the original ballast resistor, if it exists. I imagine my 69 originally had an ignition resistor between the ignition switch and the coil positive. Any tips on the exact location is appreciated, as it might help me in hand tracing that wire back. Is it a separate resistor module or a length of resistor wire? Also I noticed there are two wires on the coil positive. Is this stock? One I assume is from the ignition switch thru the resistor, but I'm not sure what the other would be for. Thanks for any info.

My 72 has resistor wire versus ballast, resistor wire to coil is easily identifiable

It's a resistor wire.

One of the wires is the resistor wire and the other goes to the starter, delivering a full 12V when the starter is engaged fof faster more reliable starts.

Eliminate starter wire?

So if I install a coil with an internal resistor and replace the resistor wire with a regular wire, I can then eliminate the wire from the starter. Since I will be getting 12V already, the starter wire is redundant. Correct? Thanks.

Yep, you got it.

But, you don't NEED to remove the wire to te starter, though. It won't effect anything, and it will be there if you ever want it to be!

starter wire

I guess I'll just replace the starter wire. Both the resistor wire and starter wire look original. They both have very bad insulation with bare wire showing in spots. Plus I can see the starter wire has been spliced and measures 7.3 ohms. So doubt it helped very much when starting the car! Might as well replace some old wires while I'm digging around. Maybe it will save me from being stranded some day...
