ignition lock cylinder

I have a 74 Stingray, and have the steering column in pieces !! HELP !!!! The little lever that your supposed to depress to allow you to remove the cylinder.....aint allowing me to remove it. Any secret I need to know or something? HELP !!

As I remember a key needs to be inserted into the lock, it does not have to be the correct key. But I could be wrong, it's been a few years.
