Last night I took my Brodix 2X heads apart to start work on them.
The intakes are 340cc and I found the intake ports close to a match, not right on but close, within 1/8th of an inch. It will take little work to match them to the intake.
The exhausts are really small in comparison. I will keep a lower flat on the port but the sides and top will be opened up a lot. The lower flat will be straighten out and moved slightly lower.

I did find the pockets under the valves crude. They would machine for the seats and any lip was left hanging in the port

The combustion chambers were also quit rough and will take work to smooth them out.

I don’t like the fact that the exhaust had no valve seal on them. I will have to look into that. As for the 800 pound open valve springs, they will have to go and a new set closer matched to the cam will replace them.

O well the company has a good reputation for casting quality. I will just have to make the finish better. Gives me something to do for the month of December.

I'm surprised at how rough the combustion chamber is... won't that cause hot spots, etc?

I expect you'll get sick of hearing me say it but I'm continually amazed by the attention to details and countless hours you put into your car!!

I was disappointed too on the roughness of the castings. They have a reputation for quality castings. Mine are race heads and they expect you to do alot of cleanup and porting but I would have thought they would come out of the box with the obvious things smoothed out.
I will spend about a week per head working many hours each day with a die grinder, cutting burrs and polishing drums.
The rough shaping of the ports, this is for one head took me only a morning. That is roughing out the shape and size I want. It will take me the rest of a week just to work/blend that cutting in and polishing. By polishing I mean the combustion chamber and the exhaust port. The intake will remain a little rougher.
Assemblying the heads, both heads takes a good evening and I check everything, every spring, retainer clearance , valve stem clearance, seal clearance, everything. I also run all springs through a spring compresser with a curve for each spring.
It is a labor of love and I don't find it work.
This weekend I finished the hydraulic emergency brake, bled it, testing it on the stands and it seems to work fine.
I work on the heads during the week, not of weekends.
