Impressions of the 62 so far

John,

I looked at it the same way figuring a few miles would flesh out any problems and I could go from there. The only real change I would make is the rack, but I'm too lazy to do it. I think its just a different kind of car and takes some getting used to.

Theres no such thing as too loud exhaust.:L I love loud. What I can't stand is resonance like in my C5. :puke

Larry,

Great job! Sound like we have something in common, both of us are our most critical critic.... I still go around the 63 looking for parts that are not secure or for more things to fix...ie latest post about headlight motor activiation switch. But you know, being like us pays off. Sounds like you are putting together a really nice cruiser. I hope to see it one day...again JOB WELL DONE!!!

Well john was correct it was the kick down adjustment.I contacted lokar and they said floor the car.Pull on the cable with pliers untill you see the mounting brakets starting to bend.then tighten the cable. Originally I just pulled on the cable with my hands untill it was tight.

Needless to say this simple adjustment made a night and day difference.Under normal driving the car shifts around 2500 to 2800 rpm.

John was also wright that it will brake the tire loose,I was doing about 35 floored it and it just tore the tires up and I had to let off.(I am not sure if it changed a gear or not)

I am hapy with the trans and now move on to the next thing.

I will not be driving spirited with this car any more (espcially since tonights ride) untill I get a better under standing of how to properly drive it. Yesterday it was only by luck that I did not wreck as it got way out of shape. And what I feel is a minor correction with my 66 is actually major in the 62.And I do not have enough skills to saftley drive it hard yet.

Larry,

Glad you got that sorted out. That thing should be a terror with the trans shifting right!

Regards, John McGraw

Boy I am going to sound like a nut hear.
But

I took the wifes C5 out tonight to mark out a 2 mile length to calibrate the speedometer in the 62. I have not drivin this car since April. Any ways I marked out the 2 mile course in the C5 the got in the 62 and drove the same 2 miles in the 62. The 62 drive no harscher or stiffer then the C5.

I was just so used to driving in my truck and my wifes truck I thought this car was way too stiff, My comments on its ride are that it ride quaility is equal to the C5.

I dont want to sound boastfull but this thing is soo cool,I am thrilled with the outsome so far.

I have to send some photos to the insurance company tonight so I will up load the photos and post a link of what the car looks like today. Tomorow night it goes to the upoulstry shop to definately get its top put on and maybee get the seats covered in leather. If he does not have the time for the seats I will have it in Carlilse with just the foam rubber and some towels laid on them.

Tomorow night is my first night off since I can remember I look foward to it.

I had a visitor to my home who is into vettes This week end and as he was viewing the 62 he noticed the 66 and how dirty it was, A soft front tire. Some freshley painted brackets from the 62 on a peice of carboard on the convertable top drying in the sun.

Needless to say he pointed out how I was neglecting the car and if I wont cherish it as I should ,I should think about passing it along to the next keeper of it. The guy was 100% corrected the car was in deploreable condtion and shame on me for allowing it to happen. He will be back up on Sunday and will be shocked when he sees it detailed and will understand I am serious about keeping this car forever.

The detailer I use picked up the car tonight and will return to the condition I normally keep the car in (spotless and ready to cruise). Over the last 18 months my only thought have been to building the 62.

Soon as I settle back in from carlilse I will service the 66 as it deserves. I am sure its all loaded up from driving in and out of the garage every night.

See you guys soon

John I hope this is the year we finally get to meet in person. I am not sure where on the fun feild we are. But I will have a note pad in the package tray with my cell phone number in it so if you see my car reach in if I am not around and leave a note and call me on my cell. Any one with nextells I will also have my direct connect number there also.

Normally by mid July it takes forever for the day to arrive when we leave for Carlilse. This year there coming too fast .See you guys soon

Wes I cant wait to shakes Mikes hand and give him my most ernist and apreceative thank you for building me my frame.

Boy are you in for a treat,BUT you should be collecting parts for it now.You know I am just finishing up the car and tonight it goes to have its top put on and seats installed,And I am running out of money I just barley have enough to have the seats done.

So be fore warned start getting stuff now.I just had to go thru my recipts to find an invoice for my springs HOLY HAT it was a giant folder I had to soort thru .

Good Luck and have fun with it

Larry, it looks terrific! I look forward to meeting you at Carlisle after all our electronic banter! :)

Well I wanted to update you guys on the ride quaility. the shocks I am using have adjustable valving in them with 12 different settings. I started out with the highest setting and boy was the car stiff. I then went to the lowest setting and fealt it was just as stiff and that the adjusting valve was just there for nothing. I am just now up to the 4th click and the car is now starting to feel GREAT.

I gues the lower setting were giving little to no valving at all and allowing the shock to completely by pass in effect giving the feel of no shocks just springs.

Any way I am at the 4rth setting and I am really starting to enjoy the car.

Saturday I go to have a dirt track racer mecanic and he will 4 courner scale the car so I should be able to tune the springs in better. I will also know the total weight of the car I am guessing around 3200lbs

Ill keep you posted. I had purchased some suspention parts from Dick Guldstrand for the rear end that uses Hyme joints. They look real cool but they are really meant for auto crossing and they effect the ride quaility so I may change back to the original rear lower control arms (vette had pre warned me on this but I didnt listen) that have bushing in them.

I'm really glad you're happy with your latest changes Larry. You said you wanted to improve a few things once you got home and you sure didn't waste any time did you? Hard to believe you could make that car even sweeter than it was last week! Still a few good months of cruising right?;) Please say hi to the family for me and take care
