Regarding my 2001 Z06, besides a performance exhaust system ,what else could I do to increase horsepower. (I don't want to Turbo);help

Update the cylinder heads, valve train, cats and calibration to the 02-04 LS6 (405hp) specs and you'll gain 20 hp. Add a Granatelli MAF and airfilter assy and you'll see maybe another 7-10 more.

An exhaust might get you 5-7 more but most of them will cost you some weight as the stock system is titanium.

Thanks for the info. Do you have any idea what the cost for heads, valve train and cats(I don't know what this is?) would cost Ball park? Thanks again..

"Cats" are catalytic converters. The 02 and up versions must be a less restrictive version, Hib would know.

The heads are the same. What's different are the valves, ie: you take off your heads and change to the 02-04 valves.

The differences between the 01 and the 02-04 spec engines:

MAF screen removed
different valves
different camshaft
different cat converters
different valve springs
different ECM calibration

As for the cost of parts, I'm don't know but your GM dealer can tell you.

FIRST...

Get a lot of money

then.......

drop it off at a corvette specialist shop and tell them how much money you have to spend
if you think about this a day or two you will see the truth of it

Unless you track/drag your car,A handheld tuner would be good.I like mine and well worth the Z$.

possibilities are endless with most cars with limitless with a 50+ years made car. the corvette has such a following that you can do ANYTHING you want with the set-up. the z06 make this even easier. first you need to figure out what you are doing with the car(daily driver, street/strip, track/weekend, etc), then figure your TOTAL budget, then you want to decide on what you CAN do to upgrade.

my first "upgrade" will be a 1 day race school with my 2001 z06 bone stock.

D.,

Why the LS6 in your MY roadster?

Back on topic:

Start with a better intake than the stock one. Personally, I went with a Blackwing myself but there are a few of them out there.

I'm also planning on headers, should make some decent gains with that.

Another method to get it running better, not gains but smoother due to less loss is change the fluids. I'm talking about motor, trans, gear, etc...

A better shifter would also be wonderful. The stock C5 shifter absolutely sucks! :ugh

The main thing to do is ask yourself: What do you plan on doing with the car?

Is this a daily driver or a weekend warrior? Do you plan on going to the track (auto-x, hpde or drags) occasionally?

Once you have answered these questions then talk to a tuner or performance shop and go over your options. I have a 2004 Z06 and elected just to do intake and exhaust, which suits me fine. Horsepower and torque cost a lot of money for these cars (parts and labor) so make your decision and stick with it. That way you will not have to waste money on things that would be replaced by another application.

Oh, and driving school is the best owner mod you can make.
