1965 Corvette Intake Manifold

I am in need of information on the base 250HP intake. The NCRS Technical Informational Manual & Judging Guide (Forth Edition) List manifold #3844457 as the correct manifold for the base 250HP engine and 3866922 as “acceptable alternate manifold.” I have had talked with Gene Manno (NCRS Judge) in reference to the 3866922 manifold and Gene stated” I have seen more 3866922 manifolds in late 1965 250HP engines then the 3844457.”

If you have knowledge of, or own a 1965 Corvette with the base engine, I would appreciate the following information:
1. The engine assembly date.
2. The casting number on your intake. (3844457 or 3866922)
3. Casting date code on your intake.

Please email information to: rcarney5@rochester.rr.com

Gee Ray, I thought that we had some 250 hp owners on here. Maybe they weren't '65s.

Anyonw know of a '65 250 hp? Should have been about 4449 built.

65 base intake

The 65 was the first year for the BIG BLOCK (396HP) and maybe some of the 250HP have finally grown up.

I have received a few email responses. I have hunted for a 3844457 intake for over one year with no luck. I feel like I have been on a snipe hunt. I am 99% sure that 3866922 intake is correct for late 65 base engine and I would just like to verify it. A change in the 65 NCRS judging manual may help others in the future.

Thanks, Ray

Looks like it's time to do a survey like John did with the '67 300 manifolds. Given that there is rarely any reason to replace an iron manifold you can bet the farm that those '65s with the 922 manifolds were born that way.

Thanks! Tom

Hi Ray

sorry, just saw this thread for the first time.
There is an excellent Corvette Restoration and Repair shop in Maryland called Tony's Corvette Shop
http://www.tonyscorvetteshop.com/index.aspx
One of the guys there, Keith, has a '65 250hp car that he restored. Maybe call him up and ask him? They may even have the intake you are looking for or have some ideas for a source.
If you call up Keith tell him that Barry with the '65 Milano Maroon coupe told you to call, he should remember me.

you say the 3866922 is an “acceptable alternate manifold" according to the NCRS TIM&JG - then put one on and fuhgitabutit

Hi! Barry

The 65 has been gone for many years, sold it to help off set the cost to restore the 1963 SWC. I have now traded the 1963 SWC for a 1961 FI car and a few $ to help restore it. I think this will be one of my last projects. Good early Corvettes are getting hard to find and the price for original restoration parts keep going up and up.

Hope to see you at Carlisle this year!

Ray

sorry Ray, I hadn't noticed the date from the original post, only that the thread was now active.
I didn't realize this was your prior 250hp car - I remember you finishing that car than selling it. Guess I just assumed you picked up another.....

Don't remember hearing that you sold the SWC......good luck with the '61 project. With your work I have no doubt it will be a beautiful restoration.

Hope to run into you at Carlisle again Ray.

Barry
