You need to be more specific about when the info rest light comes on.
Does it come on immediately?
When you first turn the ignition On, the light should blink around 7 to 9 times then go out.

When cranking the engine the light should stay on.

There are two types of codes. With History codes you need a scan tool like a Tech 1 to read them.
Current codes you can read by doing the following.

Take a piece of wire or paper clip and short pin A to pin K.
Turn the ignition On.
The info rest light should blink 12 indicating it's in diagnostic mode.
12 would look like this. Blink short pause Blink Blink.
If there are no codes 12 will continue to blink.

If there are History codes after 12 Blinks there is a longer pause and 13 will blink.
13 would be Blink short pause Blink, Blink, Blink.

If there are Current codes they will Blink after the 12 or 13.
Example code 21 would be Blink, Blink short pause Blink. Longer pause and next code if there are any more.
After all the Current codes are displayed 12 will be displayed and the cycle will repeat.

Possible DERM codes.
21 22 23 24 25 26 31 32 33 34 35 41 42 51 61 and 71.

To actually clear any codes you need a Tech 1 or scan tool that can clear DERM codes.

the light blinks a few times when you start the car then stays on

Assuming this is a new problem and the air bag system was working before this.
Short pin A to pin K on the diagnostic connector under the dash above the drivers right knee.
Picture of the diagnostic connector pin out posted above.
Turn the ignition On (don't start the engine). Look at the info rest indicator and
you should see it blinking. Count the sequence of blinks and post what you find.

I did that and it shows a code 26

26 is an open circuit in the steering column for the air bag circuit.
At the base of the steering column you will see a two pin wiring harness with a yellow
wiring jacket around the wires. That is the air bag wiring circuit that goes up the steering column
to the air bag.

Disconnect the negative battery terminal for 10 minutes before working
on the air bag circuit.

Make sure that connector at the base of the steering column is plugged in.

On the back of the steering wheel are two allen bolts (could be torx). Remove them
and the air bag pulls straight off. Disconnect the electrical connector from the air bag.
Remove the steering wheel.
This will expose the clock spring.
The purpose of the clock spring is to allow the air bag circuit to remain in contact with the
air bag contacts when the steering wheel is rotated.
When you remove the c clip that holds the clock spring on and lift it up, on the back side
of the clock spring a spring loaded pin pops out. This locks the spring in place and keeps
it from unwinding. Many people press on that pin and the spring unwinds and breaks.

When you install a clock spring with the steering wheel straight ahead you manually wind
up the clock spring half way and place it in position.

You need to remove the air bag and as shown in this video check the resistance of the wiring and
clock spring for continuity.

NEVER USE A DMV TO CHECK CONTINUITY OF THE AIR BAG ITSELF!!!
