1962 rebuild in progress
I am going to have to replace the rear drums on my 62 and notice most replacements drums from the catalogs come without the spring groove. Could anyone give any input as to the importance of the spring groove type original drums verses the replacement drums without the groove. Also what was the specific purpose of the drums with the spring groove with brake drum spring attached. When finished it will be a driver and not for show purposes. Thanks

The grooves and springs only matter for judging. The springs were there originally to dampen any harmonic vibration in the drums to prevent brake squeaks.

Thanks John. I really appreciate your input and your time in answering my question.
