Well, all is well with my clutch, but in an unrelated problem, my inside lights are staying on (on the door, and the ones behind the seats. Where is the switch/wiring for this? Everything is closed and turned off, but they won't go off. Could my VATS bypass switch be causing it?

Door switches.
They lose there adjustment over time. Check for a the door ajar message.

the door ajar light is NOT on, that was my first thought.

They're staying on when I'm driving, when it's parked, etc. They're always on (except for now, the battery is unplugged.)
Where is the timer?

Dumb suggestion, but have you checked the headlight switch? Turning it one way dims the dash, while the other way turns on the interior lights. Not being used to an American car, this threw me...

fortunately, that was the first thing I checked. The switches are good-it appears to be in that timer, I'm just not sure where it is. Anyone know for sure? (1986 coupe)

Let me check my shop manual. I want to say it's under the dash on the passenger side. Small black box. I had a spare but gave it to someone here last year. I'll post the definite location tonight when I get home.

Ok. If you've got a service manual, it's in section 8A, page 201, fig 7a. It's a little black module that connects to a wiring harness that sits above or next to the ECM. This is behind the dash "breadbox" (the big pad on the passenger side) and you get to it by taking off the plastic panel under the dash (where the footwell light is) and lying under the dash and looking up. I think on mine it's hanging free, but it most likely will be taped in place. I can take a digital picture of it if you need help locating it, since my kick panel is already off.

I don't have my manual, but I can find that.
I don't think I'll need a pic, but do you by chance know the colors of the wires? That could help.
Thanks-I'll check that today!!!

I had the same problem. I'm not agile enough to get to the timer module, so I disconnected the courtesy switch on the driver door jam. Problem stopped. I then replaced the switch with a new one. These switches are strange and have three contacts on them. They are self adjusting, but this can get lost over time. Switches are only about $10.00.
LOL

As others have noted the timer is up under the passenger hush panel. Small black plastic box with one connector. The problem is they're no longer avaiable so it's either a bone-yard or get hold of Eagle85C4. I sent him a couple for repair. In my case the hatch releases on the doors also didn't operate.

If don't know if someone has suggested it or you have checked,
but look at the light switch for the rear glass hatch since you have a coupe.

All-thanks for the responses.
Tony- I pulled my courtesy switches out and nothing happened. Don't know if that is it or not.
C4Ever-What would you recommend? Just removing the timer? That would be just fine with me-don't need the lights.
Tk53-Noone has suggested it-this may sound dumb, but where is the light switch for the rear glass hatch? I'm not around my car right now-I didn't even know it had one.
Thanks all!!!

well, I disconnected the timer, and the lights didn't go off when I closed my doors/hatches, etc. What gives??? Now that I'm thinking about it, I think that one of my courtesy latches only had 2 connectors instead of 3. Would this cause it? I'm about to just remove the damn bulbs. This is driving me insane. Is it possible that my dimmer switch on my headlight knob could be screwed? My buddy is hellbent on taking that thing off and checking it-is it worth it? It is turned all the way off, and the lights are staying on. My lights won't go off and this damn hurricane won't leave us alone.

maybe what I had out wasn't the timer because my hatch releases on my door still worked (someone said they had theirs replaced because they didn't work, so I'm asstuming they wouldn't work if I took it out.)
I'll take that digital pic if you don't mind-email me at rockytoptilidie@hotmail.com
Thanks guys-also, if anyone else has any suggestions-plz let me know!!!

One more question-if I can't figure this out, is there an alternative to removing the light bulbs (fuse, etc?)
