I tried to install a vortex air filter on my 2001 coupe. I got to the point of taking off the plastic cover over the radiator and couldn't figure out how to get the remaining two screws out. There are five screws on the bottom that attach this plastic piece to the front body. Two screws on the lower part that attach to each side. The new airfilter requires a hole in this plastic.

Now the problem. There are two remaining plastic screws on either side about 1/2 way between the top and the bottom. These plastic screws have flat sheet metal like washers over the threads. How do these screws come out? There is about 1 inch of clearance to get a tool in. It doesn't look like a socket will work. There isn't any room behind to get them out either. Once they are out, I'm not sure how to get them back in either.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Rob

My son and his friend did mine. Hope it helps, didn't take them long at all. Here is what he said: We cut the shroud with it on the car. It was easy. It did require a second set of hands to hold the template in place while the other person cut the shroud.

The person I bought it from included a shroud already cut. That way I get to keep mine intact. I agree with you that it would be quite easy to install without removing the shroud. But I'm hoping to install it with already cut shroud.

Thanks,
Rob

I just took my shroud out to install a vararam. Those pins are a problem. I finally just forced them out, breaking the back side of them (the 'head' of the pin. When I put the shroud back, I just nipped the head off with some cutters. The vararam holds the shroud down quite firmly. Certainly some new parts could be used. I spent as much time figuring out how the fasteners worked as I did anything else in that install. Not the best, but I think it is OK
