I was told to place the fan shroud in position and moved back as far as it will go and then put the radiator in. My Question is: Can I put the shroud extension on first with the fan installed? Thanks Ralph

Nothing goes in with the fan installed. There are 3 bolts on each side of the radiator mounting bracket in the front wheel wells. Remove the top 2 and swing the radiator mount bracket towards the front . This will give you room to install the radiator and shroud without butchering either. The fan etal goes in later.

Are you talking about the mechanical fan that bolts to the water pump?

I don't know about the '74 but mine is held on with 4 bolts and can be removed easily.
Then I'd do all of the work with the radiator and shroud.
Then re-install the fan.

Installing the shroud is tricky because it doesn't just slide down.
I seem to recall lowering it down at an angle, then rotating it, then lowering it some more until finally it rotated into position.

I've heard some people try to 'trim' the shroud with a saw to make it fit. Don't do that.

On C3's I bolt the shroud to the rad then lower in place with a helper.

To prevent damaged to the radiator while installing it, I cover the core with a couple of pieces of cardboard taped in place. Once the radiator is sitting in the saddles, I pull the cardboard out and finish up the installation. The radiator shroud extension can be bolted in once the radiator and shroud are installed. You should have two 10-24 x 3/4" long panhead screws at 9 and 3 o'clock with a #12 self tapping screw at 6 o'clock.
