Hi
I'm in the market for a new set of carpeting (front) for my 96 LT1 (beige).

l know cheapest is not always the right way to go, so my question is thus.

Who makes the best carpeting and which one is the correct kind for my year? Like mass back, truvette and so on.

Next, how tough is it to put in a set of front carpeting? And how is it done, with glue, screws, or pressure?

lf the seat has to come out, (l have sport seats) is this tough and how hard is it to take the old carpeting off, remember the carpeting under the steering wheel and in front of the passenger side's knee's. What about the door panels?

Does the insulation or sound deafening insulation stay or does the new carpeting have it on the back or do l have to buy it seperately??

Thanks

Or should l have somebody do it for me.

Somebody must Know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Come on, there has to be somebody that put new carpeting in a late model C4!!!!!!!!!!

I replaced the rear carpeting in my 86 last summer, was an easy job. I got the carpet from The Last Detail, it fit to perfection. I used the Mass Back type, it was premolded and fit perfect. A great improvement! There is a felt like mat that stays in the car when you remove the carpet, the new carpet has the Mass Back which is like a dnse rubber material, this is most likely the soundproofing material.

I haven't replaced my carpet yet, but I did remove it to clean it thoroughly. I felt the hardest part about removing the seat was the connectors under the seat cushion. There is a clip in the front that has to be released and then 3 or 4 connectors under the seat that have to be disconnected. Removing the door sill trim panel and E-brake cover will make access easier.

The floor carpet just lies there, no glue, screws or otherwise. Carpet on the tunnel covers, under dash, and other small pieces are usually glued. They aren't terribly difficult to separate, just make sure you get a good glue to reattach them. I didn't have much luck finding upholstery glue, so I've used both Liquid Nails and Goop Household Sealant & Adhesive (purple tube) with good results. I'm sure that 3M makes a good adhesive, but I didn't spend a lot of time hunting for it.

When I get new carpet, I will probably go with the mass backed carpet. Swapping the carpet isn't hard, maybe a little time consuming if you remove everything and clean real good while you have it apart. Make sure you check for any hidden damage to the floor boards under the seats. Mine seemed to have had a few too many run-in's with speed bumps.
