Does anyone know what a Black 1990 Vette Coupe would cost for a 18 year old? Also how can I get away without the front license plate?

If it is your only vehicle and if you are on your own policy, then I would venture a guess at being over $2000/year for full coverage w/high deductible. Course your driving record and any previous claims will have a bearing on that.

Regarding the front license plate..., the best way to get around not having one is to move South!! Front plates are not issued here in Alabama, nor in any of the adjoining Southern states.

Insurance: It will be at minimum $1000 per year, but likely closer to $2000, and that's as a secondary/leisure/seasonal vehicle. As a primary vehicle? hahahah...don't bother.

License plate: It's really simple. Is it the law or isn't it?
In Ohio, it's the law. However, most police officers are pretty cool about. Every once in a while I'll get harrassed about it, but have never had an official ticket for it. That's going on 10 years now. I did have a front plate for maybe the first two years. So 8 years nowrunning without it.

I would guess in the $2000 neighborhood. Since you're 18, you really don't have a driving record :cry for them to give you a discount. However, if you have a GPA over 3.0, I believe many companies will give you a discount. If possible, have a parent insure the car. They've been driving much longer than you and assuming that their driving history is good, the insurance shouldn't be much.

I'm at less than $1200 for the year on the Corvette and around $600 a year on my V6 Camry.

Dear Son,

Sit down cause school is about to start. 1st off i hope you have no wrecks what soever on your record. If you do, and there your fault then that leads to 2 things either i hope you have one some form of lottery or your daddys name is bill gates. Just kidding, but seriously if you have a clean driving record its not reall bad but i will give you an example of your insurance preminum on a 87 vette with 2 wrecks (at fault)

w/ wrecks for 6 month premeum- $1968= $328 a month
Keep in mind this is just LIABILITY 10/20/10

Now with NO WRECKS :) my 6 month preminum is- $1002= $167 a month
That is also just liability 10/20/10

I am waiting till july of 05 to put full coverage back on it cause i have one more ticket that comes off in may of 05.

Lesson of the day:

When you turn 16 and get that licince dont drive like a jacka$$ and get in stupid wrecks and get tickets .Casue u may not have to pay for them right then and there cause you are on mom and pops insurance so no matter how bad your record is ur insurance aint high. But boy when i got in that last wreck state farm was gonna drop everyone if i didnt get off there policy. So I have been paying a fortune for insurance ever sense. But that was nobodys fault but my own.

Shop around on the online places like Progressive and Geico. IMO, State Farm stinks.

My fathers Yukon was hit the day before Thanksgiving. Hit on the rear driver side door bad enough to keep that door and the driver door from opening. After it got hit, the gas gauge would twitch. I was the one who noticed it soon after the accident and I told him.

He talked to State Farm about it and their "expert" said that there was no way that could've been caused by being hit. The car that hit the Yukon was only an Escort but the damage looks like it hit the Yukon at a pretty high rate of speed.

I didn't know State Farm agents were also experts in automobile repairs as well...:eyerole

I am 30. When I was 22 - 23 I had a ford crown victoria. My insurance was $2,400 a year (full coverage). My record then (and now) was spotless, no accidents or tickets. When I turned 25 my rate went down by half. So, factor in that you are insuring a Corvette, you are 18 (and it is 7 - 8 years later). So, the short answer is your insurance will be expensive in our great state of NJ.

As for the front plate....I do not use one, and my inspection sticker is from 1998. I have not been stopped yet. Most cops around NJ don't really care about the front plate unless they are busting your chops. If you drive like a nut and they catch you, count on one more ticket for no front plate.

Personally, I think vettes should be excused from the front license plate law!!!!!!!

Read the other insurance thread re New Jersey!

You would be lucky to get insurance period in our great state that is going bankrupt through miss management and corruption and hiring uneducated flunkies of the elected officials.

Edmond, you never told me you had a Glock .45. Your holding back!

Alan,

We've had a few threads on guns and I swore that I had pics. I also have a Romanian made Kalashnikov.:D

Is that a form of AK-47????????????

HI Edmond

As you should already know that l'm a competitive shooter!

Alan

Why Romanian?????????

A Russian Ak-47 in 7.62mm assault rifle, not bad but what are you going to do if the enemy is over 100yds away?

Very good as far as actually going bang in rough terrain because the tolerances are huge. Swamp, sand and snow will not stop it from going bang. But can you hit what your aiming at?

The Romanian was pretty cheap. Got it for $300 shipped to my FFL.

What am I going to do if the enemy is over 100 yards away? Drive away in my Corvette!:L:L:L

My wish list includes:

Kimber .45acp
Mossberg 12 gauge
Something in .223

Hey thanks for the help guys. With the front license Plate do you have to put it on for the inspection to pass?

I think it's more of a scenario if you get pulled over.

You live in the Republic of New Jersey!!!!!!!!!!

Of course you do! In New Jersey you must display front and rear plates. Some people feel that they can get away with it but if a officer pulls you over he can give you a ticket for using a cell phone or nop seat belts on the basis of an infraction of the law by not displaying a front plate.

Also they will give you a ticket for arrogance.

Put your plate on for inspection and then you can do whatever you want.

We still have a chain gang!

Alan

Very carefully!!

You have to go between the license plate filler and the bumbper to get to the screws. If my memory serves me you would need a torx head to do it.
Tomorrow night l will check and let you know.

Alan

Patience or you will cause damage to the filler and surrounding paint.
