For those who have a TT, how much more is insurance on a TT over what it would be for a base package Vette from the same year?? Or is there a difference?

When I bought my SNAT, I talked to my insurance agent MANY times and explained how it is not a stock engine (lots more HP) and worth quite a bit more than a factory Corvette. They told me it didn't make a difference. Still pretty expensive compared to my Civic! :eek

Now, hopefully I'll never need to file a claim, but if I do, we'll see whether or not the "greater than factory" value really should have mattered or not. :mad

What I was wondering about the Twin Turbo is that is was an actual factory option and if an insurance company would actually reconize that as something more than a normal vette.

I know many Owners have "agreed value" policies for their B2K's
based upon an appraisal or current market values.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Chris, Even in a couple years, at my age, insurance on a vette will be expensive. It would be awesome to find a nice Callaway when I'm ready for a Vette and I was just wondering how that would change my insurance.

INS

The B2K insures as a regular vett, which is good for cost to insure. The insurance companies I have been with always went by the vin. This is why the ZR1 is quite a bit more than a B2K to insure ($300 surcharge per year). This however is bad for replacement claims. I have a "stated value" for my car of 30k. This may seem high to most, but I can't replace the production number which has value to me.

PS My Grand National insures as a Regal, with no surcharge.

As long as you have another vehicle to prove it is not daily driven, I have found the specialty car insurance market reasonable. I pay 550. per year for stated value on my 89 TT.

I need to go hagle with my insurance company I guess! I pay $537/half and that is listed as my second car! I'm sure being single, male, and 26 doesn't help, but wow, what a difference!

I would expect that supposing the car is totalled/stolen, etc. the ins company would compensate you based on the value of the Callaway, not just on the value of a Corvette of the same model year, or am I wrong?

Plus, why would 30k seem like a high stated value? You can't buy a decent B2K for any less than that now can you? Or is the "stated value" different from the current market value?

30k ?

I paid less than 30k for my car a few months ago. Other than the dealer having the intake resealed it is in excellent shape and I would have paid more for this car. I could not sell my car for 30k, so some would say the stated value of 30k is high.

I don't think it is. I paid just a tad less for my car and while its had a couple of small problems, cosmetically its almost perfect. I need to go get agreed value on my car. 30k is what I will have also.

30K

Josh

I'm glad to see that I may be wrong about our values. i just have not seen alot of movement on cars without Aerobodies selling over 30k. My only sorces to watch are EBAY, Callaways own site, and the corvette trader.

Cross and Josh - I know you both got great deals on your Callaways esp. since they are both "resale red" w/ Dy's...

Josh's B2K is especially a steal as it has the upgraded "Wonderbar" and that would cost thousands to duplicate on a normal B2K car.

I have watched the Callaway market for about a decade and the cars had slid each year a grand or two but they have seemed to become more stable and in some cases, I believe they have gone up slightly :upthumbs

I would think the differences between a 26k policy and a 30k policy would be minimal at best but could make all the difference if you had to make a claim...

I feel I got a pretty great deal on my Callaway as well, significantly less than 30k, I would say. I guess it is the difference between having the aero on it or not that sets it above or below 30k? And other than needing the transmisison fluid flushed and filled and the tires being burned down to the THREADS (somebody had fun) :bu , I really havn't had any complaints about the car.

I guess I don't know that I ever settled on a "stated value" with my insurance agent, which maybe I should. I was just told that as long as I could prove its value when the time comes, it wouldn't be a problem.
