Welcome to the forum :w

Why don't you post some Pics if you can. Fact is, Throw the front and rear gaskets away for the intake. and use The Right Stuff gasket material instead. Approx. 3/8" bead. Do a search for intake replacement or instalation and you'll find all the info.

thanks for the repy.but i am refering to the rear coolant passages on the heads.the old gaskets had the passages wide open the new gaskets are closed except for a small hole about 1/8. which are the correct gaskets?

OK, I don't remember, but there was some recent discussion on this, within the last two mos. or so. I think in a post of rrubel or Mad-Mic I think. Try PMing Rich. I haven't seen him post recently.

I think the new gasket is fine.

My '89 has the rear coolant passage blocked. I believe the new ones you got are correct.

Where did you get the gaskets? The original ones on my 86 had the closed passages, but the only ones I could ever find, even listed as being for my car, had the open passages.

Unfortunately, I'm the wrong person to ask about this. I know they changed it at some point, but not when. For 86 with factory manifold, you need the blocked gaskets. That doesn't help you much, I know, but if you can find someone with the '89 shop manual, it should tell you under the installation procedure for the intake manifold (section 6A1, I think).
