I was looking into changing my stock wheels and going with ZR1 Style wheels with 17 X 9.5 in the front and 17 X 11 in the back. Has anyone done this? Will they fit on a non-ZR1? Was there any handling improvements or loss? Pictures would be great if anyone has them.

Thanks for any input,
John

With the ZR1 offset (36mm) they will stick out more then the GS Offset (50mm)

OEM GM Wheels came in Silver with the ZR1 offset or the Black with GS Offset.

Aftermarket places like AFS make either wheel in either offset. I have the GS offset on my car and decided to add the flares

Jeff,
Did you see any change in handling? It looks that the tires would go right to the edge of the wheel well without the flares. Do you have any side pics?

Thanks,
John

Put them on my 86 from AFS. The handeling is awesome, but I went from 16" wheels at the same time as well. Here's a link to the offsets for various years and models. http://w1.601.telia.com/~u60113743/corvette_wheels/

the handling did not change too much from my 9.5 all the way around that I had before

I'm running the ZR-1 offset on the rear of my car and I definitely need the flares to cover the rubber. (and mud flaps also)

Generally, I'd recommend the GS offset unless you don't mind them sticking out some.

I have an 88 Red/Roadster with 5 spoke chrome rime. 9.5 x 17 front and 11 x 17 rear with 315's on the 11 x 17 inch rear rims. They stick out a bit but I really like the look of them!!!! When the camera gets back from repair and I can figure out how to post pictures I will be posting them someplace.

Yes they are the Grand Sport offset!

Which offset rims do you have? I'm starting to think the GS offset (50mm) would be better on my 86 than the 38mm offset 11's I have on the rear. They stick out well over an inch. I need flares! But it looks cool and it's on rails baby! :cool

Offset for the front 56mm 9.5 x 17 and the rear 11 x 17 50mm!

This is on an 88, I believe the 84 to 87 require a different offset!

You can get ZR-1 style wheels for your car at AFS Wheels. Their website has information on the proper offset requirements for 84-96 cars. Go to www.afswheels.com and select "Wheels" at the top of the page, then "Corvette", then ZR-1 Style Wheels, then 1988-1996 Corvette. Select the "2 17"x9.5" and 2 17" x 11" to see the offset and backspace information.

You definately want the 50mm Grand Sport offset for the rear wheels. They should not stick out much if at all from the rear wheelwells. One thing to keep in mind with the 11 wide rear wheels is that fewer and fewer tire companies are offering the 315/35 ZR-17 tires for this wheel. The tires will be more expensive than the front 275/40's and you will not be able to rotate the tires for longer tire life. Street handling should not be affected by the larger rear tires, but if you autocross, you might want to go to a slightly larger rear swaybar (either the GS or ZR-1 bar),

AFS makes some great wheels and they are a great company to do business with. Every so often they will have wheels and wheel and tire combo on eBay for less than their prices shown on their website.
