I absolutly hate the ruberized plastic covering over my interior parts...did anyone ever take it off...
what did you do... and how....

I wrestled that "issue" last year. I tried peeling it clean and it just didn't look right. Then I tried spraying it with a nice matching flat black but it still didn't look right. Finally I bought a replacement one from The Last Detail, who had the cheapest price at less than $100 (original GM can go for $300+). The black doesn't match 100%, but it was better than what I had. A year later that one has scuffed up way too easy. It isn't so bad that I feel I have to replace it ASAP, but I give it another year or two tops.

Be warned, removal of the console plate is PITA. If you should end up going that route, here's a good link:

Unfortunately, I found once it started peeling in one place, it started peeling everywhere.

Good luck!

it just looks bad... chunks taken out all over the place... is it plastic clear? or am i crazy..i just dont know what to do... i need to fix my outside befor interior... i just wanted a cheep fix...i know corvette guys hate that word cheep...but there not highschool corvette owners...haha
thanks

I guess you could still try spraying it with a flat paint made for plastics, but you really need to scrape the rubberish stuff off first.

I had considered going with one of those fake carbon fiber kits off of Ebay, but it just looked "cheap" to me, not to mention they (the cheaper ones at least) don't quite cover everything, so you can still see the rubber stuff flaking off around it.

Good luck with whatever you try!

Try a search!

I know that someone has described the procedure for stripping and restoring the interior panels on this site. I think I even printed it out. If you can't find it with a search post here and I will take a look in my files at home for the thread title.;)

I went that route but found my patience wasn't up to the task. For as easy as it was to scrape off most of that rubber stuff, it could be a real PITA in certain spots. Add to that the fact that I'm not the best painter in the world and I ended up forking over the cash for a reproduction one. :L

I just checked and it looks like the prices are still about the same. $100 or so for a repro one and nearly $300 for an original GM. It never ceases to amaze me how expensive the Corvette tax can be! :cry

I guess this will sound like a dumb question, but exactly what parts of the interior are you referring to? My car is an '89, and I totally re-did the interior with mostly used parts and it looks great! I learned a lot in the process, and if I knew which parts you were talking about might be able to help.

Cheers,

The finish is a rubberized coating called Dulso. You could do a search for "Dulso" in the archives and turn up some additional info. It is available on the aftermarket under another name and that should turn up in the search as well. As in all refinishing the end results are 100% dependant on the surface preparation.
