Hello - I just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. I am in the final stages of a complete frame off restoration to my 1970 LT-1 Covertible. It has been a two year process, with every piece either rebuilt or replaced. The car has 54,000 original miles, and will be 100% NOM... I bought the car, and immediatley submitted it for restoration. I have never driven it, and can't wait to get behind the wheel and fire that LT1 to life!!
It has been a life long dream to one own a Corvette, specifically a 1970 LT1... I never thought I would ever find a ragtop.
Question - I have read many articles, and statements regarding the performance of the 1970 LT1 Vette.... Is it truly as fast as the articles say it is? Was the horsepower really 370, or were they downplaying what the motor really produced?
Thanks and I am just so thrilled to be as close as I am to completing the project.

Welcome 70LT1RAG

Sounds like quite a project you have going, I'm sure it will be worth the wait
I've read most of the same articles you have concerning the performance of the LT-1's of 1970-1972 and they all rave about the 50/50 balance of our cars. The 1970 models with the higher compression motors would have a power advantage over the other models, but the enjoyment factor would be all the same.
Please keep us updated about the progress on your car

Hello 70LT1Rag,

Welcome to the group. I've just joined the forum recently as well. I've just started the restoration on my 71 LT-1 after owning her for 9 years. I've driven my buddy's 70 BB and 72 BB coupes and can say that my 71 LT-1 was faster and better balanced so you have lots of fun to look forward to!

Cheers,
Cal

Glad to see a few new members on the LT-1 Forum!

70LT1Rag-
What did the articles say regarding performance?
Hopefully I'll be improving mine over the winter with the changover to 4.11 gears. Believe it or not, a previous owner had installed 3.08s "for better cruising". The car came with 3.55s.

Welcome to the forum. Share some pics when the car is done. I've owned a 70 and 71 LT-1. They're great cars.
