I am researching ways to hookup my iPod to my 1997.
What I have found so far tells me that I can buy a cable but won't be able to use my CD changer once I hook it up.
Other than the FM modulator has anyone found a good way to hook up th iPod?

Well, I guess you can get one of those cassette adapters...or a new head unit with multiple inputs.....

I'm trying to figure out how to do it as well.

I saw an item in the MAMW catalog (#648-512) that hard wires the IPOD to the sound system. Has a docking station that fits into the cup holder. Also available for the C6. Cost is $329.99 plus shipping. Fortunately I have a 12 disc changer in the coupe and the convertible has the 6 CD changer. Also, I don't own an IPOD. Thought I would pass the info along.

I used the Aux2car box in my 99 so that I can connect my Ipod or portable XM radio. YES I had to disconnect the cd changer, but I'd rather be able to select the music other than trying to remember what cd is what slot. Then again, if you have too many cd's to fit on the Ipod it becomes a moot point. Just my .02 and experience.

If you are very handy with a soldering iron this is a very inexpensive (<$5) way of adding an AUX input. Click

" Hard wire " is the only way to go. :thumb

:confused

Why would you say that? With the X3 I keep my CD changer, I have 2 extra AUX ports, and can yank it out of the car in about 30 minutes?

With the "Hard Wire" method you run the risk of destroying your head unit and you have a wire hanging out the back of your radio.

What am I missing here? (BTW: I'm not trying to start a fight, I'm honestly curious as to the logic.)

iPod fix

It's going to depend on a couple of things. Keep the factory look and add an adapter to the factory head unit or change it out completely. I know there is a few options that may work well with just adding aux. ports to the factory radio because I had the same problem. I went with replacing the radio all together. The reason was it gave me total control of the iPod threw the radio while charging it at the same time. The sound quality is by far the best way of doing this and the iPod is out of site hidden away inside the center console. The Alpine radio I used is made for iPods and iPhones and uses a USB cable going to the radio. I know this option is not for everyone because it opens up other issues with the factory speakers with using an aftermarket radio. I was having problems with mine already so it was coming out anyway. I can still install the factory radio back in it if for any crazy reason I decide to sell the car. God forbid! If you want to look and stay stock add the adapter, if you want the best sound, the ability to charge it, cotrol the iPod with the radio, then you might want to change it all out. hope this kinda helps out, I have some pics if your wondering how this looks in the Vette.

Oh no,what I meant to say was stay away from cassette adapters and docking stations that you tune to the radio. use a "wire" to connect. sorry about that. :ugh :beer
