Doing the 502 Swap...and looking LIC Supply. Just picked up a 621 Bell Housing.

They don't list a Clutch Fork for a BB. Just a Clutch Fork for 64-67. Was there only one fork for BB & SB from 64-67??

Also I have to change the Clutch Fork Rod and the "Z" Bar (Cross Shaft) according to LIC Catalog.

Oh..Man...More Money...:L

Experts Please....:beer

I didn't answer earlier because you asked for "experts". :D

Yes, your clutch fork will be just fine. SB - BB, doesn't matter.

The Cross Shaft shows two versions (SB - BB), although I can't imagine what the difference would be. :confused

Probably 1/2 inch shorter then the SB type...Since the BB is Fat in the waist at that point. :D

Mark,

How do you plan on mounting the cross-shaft on the block. The answer to that will have an impact on whether you choose a SB or a BB cross-shaft. ;)

I'm using the Scogens Dickey ball stud adapter.. The same one you used. Except I'm using the stock 621 Bellhousing. You used a Scatter shield that required you to chop 1/2 inch out of the Stock BB "Z" bar do to the shield overlap.

I think the stock 621 with the SD Ball Stud Adapter and the BB "Z" bar should work. What do you think?:beer

I think you may still have a problem. I removed metal out of the side of the scattershield to permit the mounting of the bracket in the stock bellhousing holes. Therefore, the bracket should sit relatively close on mine to where it will sit on yours. It may not be exact, but certainly close.

Prior to deciding on a cross-shaft, I'd get things together and take some measurements.

Also, we ran into another factor which I haven't corrected yet. On depressing the clutch pedal, there is considerable side-slop in the cross-shaft until the backside of the stud-nut on the S-D bracket touches the 502 block. We're going to design something that wedges between the stud-nut and the block to prevent any sideways motion in the future. When I depress the clutch, I don't want some of the energy going into pushing the cross-shaft over a 1/4" to 1/2" before anything real begins to happen to the pressure plate. The S-D aluminum plate is heavy and strong, but evidently not quite enough.

I assume you used a BB "Z" bar. If that's the case and you still had to cut that 1/2 inch out..then I'll be in the same boat.

What is the diff between the SB & BB "Z" bars.. are the push end diamentions different ( Lenth of the arm that pushes on the clutch rod to fork.. or is the length of the bar from the frame to the motor different?

Which "Z" bar did you use.

Good point on the Flex of the SD plate...Maybee welding a spacer on the plate on the rear of the Ball Stud might do the trick...What's your Plan?? On That?

Yes. I used my original shaft. The car was a L-71.

Being poorly educated on SB cars, I just don't know the answer.

I haven't put much thought into it lately. All my focus was in getting the car ready for Mac to start during his visit, and now getting it over to the paintshop and back before the bad weather hits.

Then, I've got the winter to finish a few items and fine-tune everything. :bang

Well...Mabe John Z or some one else could fill us in on that.

It looks like I'm about to have the same problem with my "Z" bar that you did.
Do you remember the measurment of you stock BB "Z" bar before you cut the 1/2 " length out?

If the SB "Z" bar is shorter in the frame to motor length then maybe I'm home free..

For got to add one thing..

What gets me is that if you look at the Generals "572" BB I think 620Hp and the 720 Version..........They both come with freaken Clutch Ball Shafts and Fuel pump Boss's for a fuel pump.

What the Freak was the General Thinking when he did the 502 and left those 2 items out..:(

I don't remember, but IH2LOSE (Larry) could measure his '66 L-72 for you.

I believe that was the result of the 502 being first designed for marine racing....therefore, no clutch nor mechanical fuel pump required.

Ok I give up...I tuning my cp into Apmi-Vett ...putten some big Butt Props on and going High speed Fishen....:L

Heh Larry,(IN2Lose) can you measure your BB "Z" bar from the frame to the Motor end??

Any idea what kind of fish strike on a 90mph troll by? :confused

;LOL
Maybe One of SUBFIXERS Nuke Type Subs....

Any way ...that's enough of this "Z" Bar Talk... My 502 is sitten on the floor on a stand at the Resto guys garage and my car is at home still in one piece.

I got a long way to go before I get to the Freaken "Z" Bar. You know the deal...laying bed at knight thinking of all those 10,000.000.00 parts and how I'm gonna put this thing all together my next spring. I haven't even got the thing started yet.

I was reading your post on the neighborhood run with your Fueli buudy in between posting here.

Your shorts must have been very wet and your heart thumpen dying to be able to really step on it......What self control....I can picture myself
next spring in the same situation..except...I aint got no Stinken self control..;LOL
