I'm either going to sell my 96 LT-1 and pick up a 99/2000 C5 or do the following upgrades to my LT-1;

Higher ratio rollers
exhaust
rear end to 3.54?? no higher

maybe a chip but l would rather leave it alone.

What do you think?

As you already know it is murder to try to sell a vette this time of the year (especially a C4). If do manage to find a buyer I would make a move on the car that it sounds like you REALLY want. The money you drop into your '96 you will probably never see again. I would put the $$$ towards the car that you are going to buy eventually. C5's are the most bang for the buck right now. Overall you would be moving to a much more refined car that is "new" to you!! Good luck and let us know what you do. What part of NJ???

Not to Dr. Phil you or anything but the tone of your threads has been general discontent with the LT-1 C4. Try a C5 just like you want. It's later than you think, and the time is right to buy one.

I too sometimes muse about the LT-4 stick or an '02 Z06. Then I get a dose of the '96 and calm down again, as the grass is always greener.....

First of all l live above Freehold and as far as the C5 you are probably right. My C4 (96) has approx 50,000 miles on it and the value has no place to go but down.

I will start to look in Feb before the vette market heats up.

You may have already thought of this but let me suggest it. This is the time of year to pick up a Vette in your part of the country. Do your shopping for a C5 now and sell your '96 in the spring when the market heats up.

I think the question you have to ask yourself is if you'll be happy with it. Because if you're not happy with it, it won't matter how much time or money you put into the car how much it's worth.

Personally, I would go even further than that because I like the C4 body style and more power. But YMMV.

To me it is a matter of divorcing your mind from your car and going for a different model. I think you are at that stage. Go for a C5 that you will like. Life is short, why not try it. Don't count the bucks as much.

Last week we went out shopping for Ferrari's in Ankara (Turkey) with my wife. I am at a mental stage where I want to get the best that I can afford; midlife crisis maybe We looked at a few 98 models that were not as clean or robust as our Corvette. So I admired my Vette even more and somewhat forgot the idea for the time being. But I know almost for sure I will own a Ferrari one of these days

Alan,

The exhaust is easy enough to do but the others require skill / good service; the diff you can't do yourself.

I would go for the C5 if you can afford one. At least here, the service sector is very poor and over priced.

The Ferrari is sooooo expensive to drive that's why you can find 10 year old ones with less then 10,000 miles.

The first service is approx $7500 and that's if nothing is out of whack. The smallest thing becomes a major ordeal.

Did you ever see the warranty they give you. Don't!!!!!!!

And to drive out of a 50 mile range of your dealership or mechanic is real scarey. You will learn all of the phone numbers by heart of all the flat bed tow trucks in your area.

But putting that aside it's a marvelous machine when it's running right. It's a touring machine, mini tours and looks great in your garage.

By the way very few parking lots will let them in because of liabilities.

That's why the vette is so great.

The brakes are almost new and l was told that l should take it to around 50 mph and slam on the brakes to correct this problem. Just never had the chance. I drove a C5 and the brakes felt a lot better not that they really are.

The power is OK, but keep in mind that l have 50,000 miles on it and that it's a 96. Time takes its toll.

I haven't put a penny into it except for the normal maintenance. It's only driven on the weekends when l get a chance and because of this it has not been rained on since 1998.

Bottom line is that maybe l'm expecting too much from my C4 and would be better off moving into a C5.

This Spring l will sell my C4 and then go looking for a C5. If l'm without a vette for a couple of months l can live with it because it's my third car.

Besides that it is fine.
