Seems to take mine a bit to warm up and run well. Once warm it runs great. Even after adjusting the choke it still takes time. How does yours run? Can you just start it and go or is this a condition of a carburated car?

that's the way they were back then.
I usually let mine warm up before going anywhere.

Bill is correct. It's just the way things were. I always give my 79 about 5 minutes or so to get warmed up and ready for movement...lol. You should do the same thing today with current vehicles. Get the oil temp up, etc.

Thanks guys its good to know mines not unusual! We are all so used to modern cars that dont have drivability issues when cold that you forget about how it was back in the day.

I live in Florida, so you can take this with a grain of salt (do we really have cold weather). Mine starts up and goes, even on "cold" days. I used to have problems with chokes not working right. I remember my parents buying new cars in the late 60's- early 70's and the choke did not function right. The dealership mechanics never seemed to be any help. I too thought bad cold weather warm up was just what you delt with when you had an automatic choke. I converted my '76 pickup to manual choke (it always works perfect!). I really did not want to do that with the Vette, so I was just suffering though. Then after getting flamed on another forum by Lars Grimsrud for suggesting to a guy that was at his wit's end that he do a manual conversion, I tried Lars' Quadrajet choke set up proceedure. Now the thing works perfect. Too bad the dealer mechanics back "in the day" didn't know how to do this! Lars' e-mail is v8fastcars@msn.com. Just shoot him an e-mail asking for his Quadrajet choke set up paper. Follow the instructions and drive happy!

God bless, Sensei

All it takes is a proper set up and a little maintenance once in a while!!:thumb:thumb:thumb My LS6 454 pops off every time, don't matter if it's 80* or -20*!! If a customer has crashed or broke down on the Mountain,I gotta roll!!:thumb

Could you post the info Lars gives you?

My car idles rough for the first minute or two until it warms up.
Runs perfectly after that.

Not sure how to attach but if you want I can foreward a copy of the e-mail I received from him.
