Re: Wish I could be there.......
"Each generation of Corvette has more styling, more quality more performance over the previous generation. So in keeping with tradition, the C6 will have more styling, more quality and more performance."
So each time someone asked him a specific C6 question like "when will we see a 500 hp Z06", his response was a smile and "as I said before, it will have more styling, more quality and more performance."
It shut 'em down each and every time which was really kind of humorous.
That's why I said earlier in this thread, if you get the chance to do a Q&A with Dave Hill, don't waste your time and his asking specific questions about the C6, because it won't happen.
Asking for C6 information seems pointless to me because it's obvious that competition in the automotive field is pretty fierce. Everyone is always trying to out do the other so in order to try and stay ahead of the competition, automotive manufacturers do the best they can to keep future work and prototypes hidden from the people until they're ready for production.
GM is not stupid. They are well aware of how the internet has revolutionized communication between people. They know damn well, that people are looking for little gold nuggets of C6 information and as soon as someone lets something slip, it will travel across the internet faster than lightning.
Do they use this to their advantage? I'm sure they do. They can see the crowds of people standing at their feet drooling all over the place in anticipation for C6 information, so every now and then, they'll show you what looks like a nice big biscuit in the form of a C6 test mule, but it's actually nothing more than a little morsel of Gravy Train. It gets the level of excitement up, stirs the proverbial pots a bit and directs public attention to the Corvette in general.
Personally, for me, I like to get to know the people behind Corvette insted of asking them questions that I know I won't get answers to. For example, I asked Dave Hill the following question:
"During the 11 years you have been Corvette, what achievement would you say that you're the most proud of?"
When I asked that, I actually heard a few people tsk and sigh in the audience. Probably because they felt I passed up a good opportunity to ask him about the C6, but like I said, I'm not going to waste my time and his time.
He's been with Corvette for 11 years, and has seen and done a lot witih the platform. The C5 has gained a lot of new-found respect within the automotive community so I was really curious out of all that he's seen and done and accomplished with Corvette, what was the one achievement that he was most proud of.
His response was acquiring the J.D Power for Quality awards which he said was really tough to do. I think that's awesome!!
Anyway, I've rambled on long enough here.
Actually, Dave Hill was kind of funny when it came to talking about C6 information. As he explained, he gets the same questions over and over again as he goes to various Corvette events in the country. So he worked up this general phrase that basically answers everyone's questions about C6. I wish I could remember exactly how it went but it was something along the lines of:StillDreaming said:Rob,
Wish I could be there....... Enjoy the day. Dave would be interesting to hear from, especially in that type of settting. All praises for your site. Any type of informatin concerning 2004 C5 that you can bring to us at days end would be great. Thanks again.
I wonder what it is like to talk to all of those people and keep in so many secrets about C6? That has to be tough. Enjoy!!! Sorry if this is a day or two late......
