;shrug Other than buying a Callaway MagnaCharger and a hood, how is this car a "Callaway" :ugh

Looks good and has lots of $$$$$$ thrown at it, but is it a Callaway??? I do not see any badges :w

That is not the only mistake in the title of the add: 2008 Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 CALLAWAY

;LOL

Just like its not a Callaway, its not a Z06 either :chuckle

No badges and no covers either ;LOL

I hope no one is misled. I e-mailed them the following:

FYI, this is not a Callaway. Nor is it a Z06 which has a 427 CI engine.

Callaway supercharges may be installed by others but they are not registered as "Callaways." Callaway's have banding on the flanks and rear, have a identifier plate on the ash tray and come with a letter of authenticity and are documented by Callaway. Additionally they have body colored covers on the engine.

Of course I could also have mentioned the double "D," etc.

I believe this is another example of the "Callaway fever" name recognition that is catching fire. The products exposure is almost in everything you touch that says Corvette. I think it is important we continue to monitor these type of situations to protect the real "Callaway Corvette".

I agree and while the car clearly sports a Callaway MagnaCharger, it is mis-represented as a whole. And the dealer selling in, prior to SCraffen's email, might not have had any idea. ;squint:

It says the SC package, but look at this:

The complete Callaway supercharger kit was purchased and installed as well including the Callaway hood, intercooler and air intake (over $18,000 for this kit alone). The exhaust was changed with Magnaflow mufflers then a short shift kit was installed and the windows where tinted as well.

The brochure from one of the auto shows is probably where they got that number, but it s NOT the $18,000 package (m/y 2008 prices)

This is evidence of Callaway's success in making their product something very desirable.

Unfortunately there are those that will confuse by intent or through ignorance. Hopefully it's the latter here.

I don't get too excited about this type of thing; I just chalk it up to typical dealer puffery (and/or ignorance). I actually think in the long run, it could help Callaway and us as Callaway owners because it brings additional exposure and hype to the name. I certainly would feel differently if ID tags/numbers, etc. were forged.

But, in this case, the differences between a Callaway-built car and a car with a piece of Callaway hardware are apparent. It should be obvious what it really is to anyone considering this car.

actually I do. :mad

I e-mailed them as well just before my previous post. :bash

Trying to pass that car off as a Supercharged Callaway Corvette diminishes the value of legitimate Supercharged Callaway Corvettes. The fact that it is a dealer who is listing it as such bothers me even more than a regular Joe who maybe couldn't afford to stay in it and tried to cut corners with the DIY kits, and even more because they are profit centers (probably stiffed the guy on the trade in) and are SUPPOSED to be knowledgeable in their line of work.

People gripe that the cost to have Callaway do it is too high but then they try to pocket the inherent value retention of real Callaway cars which they not only produce but also protect with a warranty.

They responded to my e-mail as follows:

WE NEVER SAID IT WAS A Z06 OR A CALLAWAY

to which I responded:

It's in the title!

Title of listing is as below:

2006 Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 CALLAWAY

Yeah, he replied to my original e-mail denying that it was misleading. I replied back with much more detail as to why. I am sure he is getting annoyed of hearing it by now. ;squint:

He could better change it into this!:

If you are not sure about something, please ask! Do not assume anything listed is included!
:D

Sadly the market is just the other way around these days. I was looking for some trollbead juwels on ebay and you get a list like 5 pages long with all kind of fake lookalike things. When you sell something that is real you have to sell it like a original trollbead or original Callaway these days :(

Anyone report this car to Ebay yet ;shrug

For what? Using keywords that relate to the car in the title (presumably to help it appear in more searches)?

No, it's not a "Callaway" and not a Z06, but it does appear to have real Callaway and Z06 components. I just read the description and it says it comes with all the paperwork for the modifications made. Unless any of that's forged, I still don't see the big deal about using the keywords in the title. I don't think it's misleading unless you bid on the car by title alone without reading the description. :confused

If it was a Callaway Corvette Dealer, misrepresentation would not be tolerated...

Actually, the fact they say it is the $18,000 package, alludes to them *expressing* the car is something it is not. Where is the flyer for the Callaway SC kit vs. the Callaway Corvette brochure ;shrug If this was a Callaway Dealer doing this, they would have some SERIOUS explaining to do!:ohnoes

What is obvious to you and me, might not be so obvious to some sucker ;squint:

The description is all wrong, but I guess that is what greed bay is all about :W

I have no issue with the title because it is common practice to use extra keywords in the title to attract a larger search criteria in eBay. However, there is nothing in the description to clarify that it is not a Callaway Corvette and the Supercharger kit sold through distribution channels does not cost $18K as stated. The seller states that price and pictures the Callaway brochure showing $18K which is the Callaway installed price installed by Callaway as a Callaway Corvette (C6 Supercharged) as generally implied in the add. No Certificate of Authenticity. In my eyes, that is the deceptive part.

I'd just assume that if they said it cost $18k and came with all the receipts/paperwork, there'd be one in the folder for that amount, and I'd know what I was getting.

Anyway, I'm not trying to defend the guy to the hilt but rather point out that it may not be reasonable to expect others to share the same high standards that we have on this board (which is what makes it special in the first place).

It's pretty simple to me. It's misleading and they should adjust both the title and the description.

Look at this one - it is done right on the description :cool
