J55 C5 16 Enkei's

OK I know the J55 Brake will fit a stock 16 inch Enkei wheel.
Will the C5 front brakes also work with the Enkei 16 Inch wheel.
There both 13 inch rottors.
I waiting to save some cash up so one day I can chenge to a 17 or 18 inch ZR1 type wheel but untill then I like to have better brakes system.
I prefer to go with the C5 Brakes but will they fit the stock 16 inch Enkei's for now.

No
The C5 caliper is much larger ;one of the reasons is why it is more desirable.

C5 brakes don't even fit stock C4 17" sawblades

Thanks Now.
When I bit the bullet and put the money out to get new brakes C5, Baer,Wilwood, SSB, ?.
I looked at all of them the price of all these brake are not much diffrence 13 or 14 inch If I have to buy new wheels for the big brakes might as wel make worth the money.

Why do you HAVE TO?

Best thing to have in your vette is a perfect tune. There's nothing like total confidence in your motor - that you can drive to the coast, or mountains, that it ain't gonna' overheat, or cut off when you pull up at a stoplight, and it's burning clean...

Get FSM, and start readin'. Knowledge is king.

I learned after all these years of building stuff looking into every thing sometimes there a better way to go for the same price and latter on you find out about then you tell your self Youe should looked it to more before you spend the the money.

They don't ?????

Mine do.

Sawblades....Enkie mfg. brakes 97-2004 Corvette. (C5?) The front is even ZO6 calipers. 2004 pads....
I think the key is the adaptor that mounts the caliper. Yes, the drilled rotors are big but the inside of the Enkie wheel is bigger. Theres not alot of room left, but they fit. I've known several that installed a similar set-up. In fact, the caliper abutment brackets are almost impossible to find because there are so many folks installing the C5 brake on street rods and C4s. The C5 J55 brake can be installed on some 16" rims if there is a little grinding on the caliper fin in a few places.

Total investment in brake parts was around $1000+ (rotors, calipers, brackets, bolts, pins, seals, adaptors, braided lines, good wheel adaptors/spacers). Buy pieces here and there for best price. Most kits are only made for front but do simplify things. Make a list of the parts, start the search and plan on several weeks of shopping. Guide pins and seals are also tougher to locate than I would have believed.

C-6 brake parts will NOT fit as of now. Only because nobody has machined an adaptor yet. They will. The attraction of a 3 piston caliper will suck people in like a black hole for paychecks.

As for Fabing any parts up thats no big deal I have a Water jet cutter and a machine shop to work out of.

I just mite go the C5 Brake route I guess I could but the back set up fab the [parts needed and see what It going to take them to work.

But Like I said C5 $1000.00+ Baer $1200.00 what is the better deal.

But like I said over on SV.

A quick internet search got you new calipers, rotors , pads , abutment brackets and early C4 adapter plates for $650
What are you going to spend the remaining $350 on?

Nobody else has reported them fitting without grinding the back of the wheel

Still believe you can do it cheaper.
Prices have gone up since this post but new C5 calipers can still be had under $250 / pr

I believe that the spacer/adaptors and the caliper bracket adaptors make the difference. The bracket adaptor dictates how high the caliper rides on the rotor, and the wheel spacers move the rim in or away from the hub. I was warned by a friend that did it, and went slightly over on the hub spacers and was very specific to the shop that mfg the brackets for the calipers. I think the ZO6 caliper is shorter than the J55 also. For some reason the J55 looks chunky.

Cheaper? absolutely. I got the whole 9 yds...I bought nicer hub spacers, stainless lines with all new fittings, and nice rotors. You can have a good system without all the extras that I bought.

I went crazy with mine because I have to compete with a buddy that wasted twice the money on Wilwoods for his rustang....and those POS calipers don;t even say Corvette on the side...

Wed Additional Info:
I got curious as to why the sawblades might not fit the C5 brake upgrade, and see what it takes...

The sawblade wheel is obviously cone shaped, getting smaller toward the hub. Wider by over an inch at the back side. The calipers are also a similar shape with taller cooling fins in back and very short fins toward the front. So, the only conclusion is wheel spacing and offset is the key. The further the rim is spaced from the rotor the greater the clearence. Easy.

I was told to go more than the required 18mm (3/4") or grind the calipers. I decided to go with a thicker spacer to enhance the footprint, allow for caliper clearence and increase stability. I went 1/4" extra front and 1/2" over on the rear.

I am also told that there are certain Enkies that had a different casting that made them easier to fit while others were thicker or had something different that made fitment more difficult. In the polishing process I could see the difference in the metal with one wheel being from a completely different series. Although the metal had different characteristics the shape/size was exactly the same.

Marv...

Personally, I like being able to walk in ANY auto parts store and being able to get a caliper seal kit or pads....Can;t say that if I bought Baer or wiltedwoods.

Also, C5 parts can be pieced together. heres a link to a start...
