Thanks for the advice from you guys/gals out there. I finally got my first Vette:cool. A S/A (13/07), L82 (#'s match), 4 sp, Leather (122), FE7, 90K miles. The only thing I want to do now is change the fluids. I want to use Mobil1 in all, is that Ok in the ST10 & rear? If so, how do you change the rear fluid, it's not like the old 10&12 bolts is it?... I work just a few blocks from 'Ground Zero' and after what happened said it's time for a 4sp Vette:D

The only problem I have heard off by switching to synthetic is because of its penetration ability you could have small oil leaks where you didn't before. This is mostly a problem with higher mileage motors.

mvftw- Thats great news!!Trans fluid use GL5(SAE-80W-90).
The rear end fluid> remove the spare tire carrier first. Then I use a suction gun to draw the fluid out(best done when rear end fluid is at least warm).Using the suction gun again,I add 1 bottle of GM#1052358 then add 3 botlles of GM#1052271 or until full. Make sure to use this special GM oil for the positraction rear. BTW, a suction gun runs about $13 at your local auto parts store.
As far as using Mobil 1 in car with that mileage,Some say it would not be a problem, others say it might find oil leaks for you. I guess I am in the camp of the latter. In my high mileage car I use Valvoline Extended Life 10-30 and change the oil every 2000.
Don't forget to flush your rad too.Have fun!!!!!!

Congratulations on your first vette!!!!! I'm with the stick to non-synthetic oil camp in this case. First off, your engine was built years before synthetic oil was invented. Given that it has 90k for miles there would be no real advatage to putting in Mobil 1 now. Stories of old style gasket material not tolerating the synthetic and developing leaks are numerous. Save your money.......if you overhaul your engine and start new, by all means go synthetic.

Just my 2 cents worth:w

Welcome mvftw to the 78SA!

I'm sure you'll have lots of fun with the L82 and a 4-speed!
