I'm looking for info on my 68. what engine is it supposed to have. it has a427 not original cannot find numbers on the block by the water pump. Nothing is there. My Vin number is 194678S401745. On the plate on the door it says trim std C11 and 992 paint

For 68, there was the choice of two 327 small blocks, and three 427 big blocks (4 if you count the L-88). Without original documentation for your car, it could be difficult to determine the original engine. You could look at equipment installed on the car and posssibly determine whether it could have been a big block or a small block from the factory, but without documentation you would have only hunches. 68 VINs contain no codes for options.

C11 indicates October 11, 1967. That would be the date your car passed the station on the assembly line where the trim tag was attached.

STD indicates black vinyl interior trim.

992 is the code for Corvette Bronze exterior paint.

It does have a 427 hood I was told it it a 427. But can't find any numbers on it. Thank you for responding

Without doing some research I can't be sure about this... but I seem to remember there was a difference in the front suspension of the BB verse the SB...

Do a bit of research in our "Specs" drop down menu near the top of the page, some of the NCRS types might have a better handle on the suspension and other little tid bits like the choice of transmissions and or rear ends and sway bar sizes.. I think the Tach was also different. But like I said it has been a very long time since I was involved in judging NCCC or knowing off the top of my head what is or isn't different.. comes with old age ;)

Good Luck on your quest.. If you enjoy it, then :Steer it :lou

You never know, it could be an original motor that got decked during a rebuild. Sounds like you need to do a lot of research. Check the block casting #'s and all the other casting #'s on the car. Corvette Bronze, my favorite color. Wish mine was that color instead of British Green YUK!

There are several differences between big block and small block applications; front springs are only a part of it. Everything big block was part of an options package which included several items different from or not found on the small block cars. Since any or all of it was optional, any or all of it could have been added by a previous owner. Finding big block items on a car is a hint of what might have been, but not necessarily proof positive.
