Kelly Blue Book on my Vette Made me Sick!

i'm around ken just been busy :D

When I sold my K-5 Blazer after buying the vette, I found that the good condition, loaded Blazers similar to mine were selling for between $7k and $10k. Totally beatup ones (not uncommon for a 4x4 Blazer... they never stop running) were selling between $3k-$5k.

I ended up selling my Blazer cheap to a family member who needed it for $4k. And that was a total steal for him. His friends are so jealous that he got such a good vehicle for half of what it would have normally cost on the open market.

The Kelly Blue Book value for this vehicle?

$1500

No relation to the real world whatsoever. You would never find anything more than a rusted out hunk for that little money. And that's what their formula said a loaded Blazer in excellent condition in my area was worth. How useless a guide.

I suspect that Kelly Blue Book has some sort of agreement with insurance companies to totally underate car values so that when your car is totalled or stolen, you get screwed on the totalled value for it. You can't buy even half of a similar replacement for the pitance they'll pay out usually.

When we lost our '73 Nova (which was in superb condition.. a classic car!), the insurance company gave us less than half of what it would cost to buy another one. When we showed them ads for these cars, and asked how we were supposed to replace it, they did their own research and showed us ads that corroberated their totalled payout.

It didn't matter to them that their ads were for cars that were rusted out, didn't have engines, and we're located in backwater communities across the whole U.S thousands of miles away from us. Useless.

It's all a big scam.

i seen a vette advertised as a 40th anny edition 93 with no 40th badges with 48k in miles they want 14,9k

now that is interesting skant. i'm starting to sweat about the price of my vette to the insurance company. if they only view it as a 6k car!?!?! i'm gonna call them and find out.

Skant,

That's a darn good observation you have there. But the Kelly Blue Book site asks for a zip code. Surely they can't compare different markets and just cherry pick the lowest market to their convenience? Isn't that some sort of fraud?

Mad-Mic, see if your insurance company offers a replacement-value policy. Mine does; they'll give you what an equivalent car in your area would cost. I've got that on the Vette.

Hi Jason,

I have a business friend who score is 915. I understand the highest score is 935-940 range.

As to my score, it was 845 and then about a year later I paid off four hugh loans in their first year. each loan value was over $12,000 and one in the $25,000 range. Next check I made revealed my score was over 900. Your score changes according to debt and payment and or pay offs.

Take care,
Stan

And know that there is a difference in the kbb.com values and those in the book that is SOLD.

A former neighbor does their web site and told me same.

Dealers here pay well below wholesale as they figure worst case of sinking 'X' amount of bucks into each car, then being forced to wholesale it. Trading in is a great way to get 'hosed' on two ends. Selling a Vette one's self can be dangerous, too.

I'd keep it, personally. 1986 was a very good year for Vettes.
