These are so fuzzy it appears as though I was jumping around (maybe I was), but in the second shot, you can barely see where the damper had come undone and worked its way back until it was almost touching the timing cover. That is the location from which my vibration was emanating! Remember, I said it was an "harmonic" type of vibration and not a metallic type. :eyerole

View from the workbench.

From the doorway. The other Silver Corvette is an '85 that is pretty hot in its own right. That guy (Dave) is gonna be making some serious power! It's kinda weird, I think I'm seeing double until I find my stripes which sets them apart from each other. Otherwise they're pretty identical in appearance.

Breathtaking Ken. Beautifull !! I think i felt a tremor on my putor when I click on the engine pic....:eek
BTW My dampner was scraping on the timing chain cover , there were hot spots on the inside.... youch!!

The Best is Yet to Come

Ken,
Glad to see you are on the road to completion. You must be on a high everyday. Thanks for the update.

VERY :cool

Whos PROM are you using again? are you going to Dyno tune that beast?

Go Baby, Go!

Damn Ken, that motor look so righteous! I can just imagine taking her out for a ride down Pacific Coast 1 and cruising down on a crisp, cool afternoon. Wind the engine, knock down a gear and slice through the California air. After the car is complete, I can't imagine you will be spending much time at home. :D

I wish I could agree with that Roy, but it's the little things that keep driving me crazy.

This morning I discovered the Tilton release bearing isn't going to work with the Centerforce clutch, something Centerforce doesn't tell you when you purchase their product. They do mention other clutches and how to set it up for them, but they simply neglect to include Centerforce in the list, with no explanation as to why.

Richie talked to the technical representative at Tilton, that's when we discovered the error (my mis-spending) on my part. It's no problem, as a matter-of-fact it may be a benefit because of the work involved in setting it up correctly. Anybody want to buy a Tilton release bearing?

The next thing is the motor mounts; I bought the wrong mounts! Anybody want to buy a set of Energy Suspension motor mounts for an early style Chevy small block?

If I can't find a flange from a catalytic converter that is similar to mine, I'll have to cut the flange off of my old one to have a pipe made to put in its place.

Jeff, the PROM came from Myron Cottrell at TPIS.

Bullit, I can't wait to get this thing complete, and all of the bugs sorted out, so that I can get the hell out of here and into the heart of America again. I need some relief!

It should be back up and running again next week.

Richie Okamoto is the nicest person in the whole world! He is so very helpful.

Ken,

Welcome to my world. The realm of nothing fitting right the first time, nobody knows the product, or takes the time to explain how it will or won't work with certain mods, and finally, nothing ever times out as planned. At least you have a professional doing the build and install that deals with this everday. For me, I am always flying by the seat of my pants, and squeezing in time here and there to do it all myself. I learn from mistakes.

The good news is, all these little struggles will turn into fun conversation a year from now!

Stay at it. I may have gotten mine up and running before you, but I have a feeling that your overall fit, finish, and quality will be superior to virtually anything else out there.

Chris

Thanks Chris. :upthumbs

:L Yeah, like the $12 relay for my overdrive that I spent over $4000 to find! :L

My Crate motor is still sitting on the pallet waiting!

Wheels and tires....

Ken.. several pages back you asked if anyone had any experience with AFS wheels.. The answer is now yes! Bought them from California last year on e-bay complete with very nice mounted Kuhmo tires! Great deal. Drove them all around on the street and just this past weekend Lesley and I went to a local track and did some hot laps.... both the wheels and tires performed superbly!!!
What a rush! Adrenaline flowing like crazy .. good thing for my live speed control (Lesley) or I may have exceeded the limits of adhesion! But, man it's way up there.. four wheel drifting .. controlling the turn with the throttle is absolutely a rush!! A whole new appreciation for the Z07 suspension!! Wheels look superb and held up under severe treatment without a hitch!!
I got the chromed ZR1 look-alikes.. they're very nice!
Regards
Glenn

giggles and grins.

Ken, just for fun you need to take this opportunity to yank the gauges out of the car and remove the odometer. Since the car has all nearly new drivetrain, and is over 10 years old, you should roll the odometer back to zero. I did this with my V8 Fiero after getting it all together. I did not expect anybody to believe that it only had x number of miles, but it was fun to keep track of it at a glance after the mods.

Just a thought. Oh, I made a tag and put it on the back of the i/p with the miles showing at the time of the roll back.
