Ken's Engine Project...

No such thing as too loud Ken. Is there any room for a chambered section upstream of the Side Effects?

Tom

Tom, I guarentee this will get me busted if I try to drive it on the street regularly. :eek

I'm going to talk to Joe Markovicz at Lawrence Keech tomorrow. There is another kit that can be added to the Side Effects system to reduce loudness and resonance, but I don't know if that is going to be enough. I'd like to uncork it to hear what it will really sound like, but that's for another day. :L

I hope I don't have to change exhaust systems again. I really like the Side Effects look.

Ken, with no CATS and flow masters on my 90 it belches out way more noise than allowed by law. I have to be careful. In fact, my buddies have listen to it and the big block side pipe 69 and all are convinced the 90 is louder.

I too would like it about 30 decibles quieter. The trick is, how to do it without choking the motor.

Glad you got on the road. IT is a good, and nerve racking feeling.

Right on! When I replace my cam, the sidepipes are going on with no mufflers. I want to break that cam in the only way I know how. Earth shaking! :BOW

Hello Ken and all forum members.

My first post! Firstly thanks for the usefull advise and tips I have found on your forum since becoming a vette owner-much valued and appreciated.

Secondly to Ken-I've been following your engine build up now since your early posts and it's great to see the fruits of your labour are soon to be enjoyed! Even my girlfriend ask's every week "Has Ken got his engine in yet!"

Good luck with the snagging still to be done and in keeping it pointing in the right direction.

If you need to put some miles on it you could ship to Europe and make the pilgrimage to Le Mans.

Steve :w

Keith, it doesn't like me holding it back while I break it in. It wants to get up and scat! :D

Steve, nice to have another car lover from the United Kingdom join us. That's funny that your girlfriend (I almost said wife! :eek) is asking if my engine's done. :L I'd love to take it over there, as well as take it to The Netherlands to visit Johnny and Twinnie and all of those guys. John (JHL), from the UK also, was here last year and visited me while at the beach, the offer extends to you and your girlfriend too if you decide to visit the States in the future. :upthumbs

Bullitt, the shops next to Richie's didn't appreciate that fine sound coming from my car while I was breaking-in the cam. I wonder why? As a matter-of-fact, I just had a neighbor (bi*ch!) come out on her balcony and tell me not to "do that" anymore. Do what? :L

Dave, the transmission is a bit stiff yet, but man-o-man, what a difference! Not only the fact that I don't have to deal with the 4+3 anymore (David Fulcher can help you guys with that in the future. ;)), but the ratios are such that I absolutely LEAP out of the hole! First gear doesn't last long. :L

Someday I'll have to figure out just exactly what my final ratios are. The standard set-up from Richmond is built with the factory standard rear gear ratio; I changed mine to 3.73s last year. I have no clue as to my actual speed, I'm just flowin' with the traffic. ;)

Cool deal on the tranny......:upthumbs............Nice valve covers too. Did you stay with the Accell Injectors? Sweet wheels too.(I'm just catching up :D)

:L Yeah, all seven of them. (One was bad. It figures eh - my kind of luck!) :L

Maybe she means that if you rev it, you should also do a smokey too? Yeah, that's it! :L I had someone complain once to me that my car was too loud and that I should stop "racing the engine." Hell, I was just idling! :gap

Hello Ken

Thanks for the offer:beer Looks like we'll be doing the Florida/Disneyland thing with the children sometime soon which means we shan't be West enough to SEE you but it could be we're still close enough to HEAR you.:L:L:L

Btw picked up a really bad vibration at above 60mph yesterday which just came from nowhere and won't go away.Is it possible for a LTPW sensor to move on the wheel rim?

Thanks again :w

I couldn't help myself today; I left my bodyman's shop after showing it off there, and as I was leaving, I sorta dumped the clutch and diddled the throttle a little. The Firestones were spinning but there wasn't much smoke, I didn't want to go overboard yet, there are only thirty miles or so on the engine so far. I can see now what Chris was mentioning that he was gonna be going through tires quickly. :L

Man, with the 3.73s in there already, and having the Richmond geared as it is, if I can plant the tires I'll betcha it'll lift the front end! I can go through three gears as I cross an intersection. :eek

Which reminds me; Richie told me today that he had a friend with a car that had 5.38s or something, and when he left the hole, it lifted the front end, and not only that, the driver banged second with the front end in the air! :L

Steve, I don't know squat about the LPWS so I'm afraid I can't be of much help to you. Sorry.

Have a good time while you're in Florida though. You really should look up Chris and a few others while you're in the South. It's like the Olive Garden (a restaurant chain) commercials we have here in the States where they say "When you come here, you're family." Meeting others from this community is a feeling that you really must experience. :upthumbs

Very Nice Ken I hope you enjoy your new toy..

About the speed problem in one of my catalogs (Corvette America,Zips,Mid America, and Ecklers) ((I forget which I'll look for ya) there is a speed adjuster "Dohickey" its about 200 bucks though.

If you want some more info on it just lemme know if your interested and I'll look up the company/Model Number for you Np.

Grats Bro!

Congrats Ken;

I guess I'll be seeing you at Ruby's tomorrow night. What break-in procedure are you following. I would strongly recommend that you go very easy for the first 1,000 miles. There will be plenty of fun after the break-in is done.
