does anyone know what the options button on the keyless entry does......................

also is the way to work the security .....do you elec lock the doors before closing them so the security light quits blinking then close the door......and is the only way to turn alarm off to put key in door and turn to right..............

I thought that the PKE was available starting with the 92 model?

Is it possible you have an aftermarket system?

Going back to my 90--you locked the door with the electric lock & had to use the key to open the door & deactivate the alarm. About all I can remember.:confused

yes, keyless entry didn't come until '92, check the brand on your key fob, maybe the manufacturer will know more.... others here have done aftermarket systems, there is a bypass to get around the security thing

Keyless Entry

I think keyless entry came in 94. My 92 doesn't have it. Ecklers has a kit to add it. I was thinking of getting it one of these days.

I installed one of those Ecklers units. Installation went smooth and the kits were neat, no wires to cut, but it did not work. The unit was a little pricey at about $300. The instructions had a phone number to call. but it was always busy. Ecklers gave me another number to call but it did not work either. Ecklers sent me another unit, but after installing it, the interior lights timer burned out. Sent both units back and was refunded my money. Had a hard time locating the timer, but found it at carparts.com. I thought I was being very careful with the installation, but I think the units were just defective. I decided to just use the key!

93's have it..

My friend's 40th anniversary had keyless entry so I think it did come out in 92. It may have been an option though, so some cars may not have it. I'm not sure when it became standard.

I installed a kit from Ecklers on my 87 with no problems and and it has worked flawlessly. It's nice to be able to pop the hatch without having to open the door.

PKE came out in 1993, it was standard on all three flavors of the Corvette. The PKE system was the first truely passive keyless system of it's kind to be engineered into any car from the factory. It was great when it worked properly. However, many let the battery in the key fob go dead, then couldn't figure out how to get things working again after replacing the battery.

Yes, You are correct, However I installed the VKE 1000 Keyless entry system from GM. I also have a Clifford IG8000 that I will install in it's place at some point.

I have my Keyless entry set-up so when I exit the car I hit the Electric Lock switch on the door to arm the Alarm. When I return I use the keyless to unlock and disarm the alarm, only probem is I have the Newer GM horns and for a quick moment the Alarm arms before disarming, so the horns honk once. If I get around to it I will install my aftermarket alarm and ignore the factory one.

If you installed the system yourself, I have a diagram for connecting the keyless to disarm your Factory alarm. I have not figured out how to arm VIA keyless though

Jeff -

Just wondering - on the VKE 1000 you have installed - when you unlock at night - does that activate the perimiter lighting (as happens when the key is inserted into the lock)?

You mentioned that the horn sounds when unlocking because the system temporarily arms before disarming - why does this happen? I thought you merely needed to install a relay to ground the security wire off of the door lock to disable the factory alarm system when unlocking...

Perimeter Lighting meaning the interior light turning on, then yes, it does do that.

I do have the relay like you described but I think there is a mechanical lag in the relay. I still need to look into it a bit, bt I have not had any time lately
