Can anyone help to get rid of , knocking/ pinging ? I know the carb. needs to be rebuilt (takes about 12 pumps) to fire it up.

1- runs great & very strong acceleration!
2- reverse flushed cooling system & 195 stat. was 180 (no change)
3- timing is right on
4- checked with vaccuum advance disconnected & plugged (same)
5- no vaccuum leaks
6- ran gumout through 1 tank & filled up with 93 octaine
7- new pcv valve
8- engine is sucking plenty of cool air (air filter exposed)
9- no stalling or hesitation, very smooth.
Thanks alot for helping! gary.

/Gary ... timing is right on

Gary:
Although the timing mark may be in correct place at a given RPM ... Have you verified that both (1) the mechanical/centrifugal advance weights & springs are free and move throughout range ... and (2) same for vacuum advance range of motion?

Does this change with different brands of gas? I had an old V6 Capri that would ping on high octane Shell but not Texaco during the 110+ degree days of Sacramento's Summers.

Sorry . . . I really am . . . gotta say it . . .

WHO'S THERE?

:D :s :L :grinshot :bu

Try bumping your timing up a couple of degrees. On bobchads thought, I run Shell Premium when I can. We have a lot of offbrand stations around here and I run a lot better on Shell. It's worth a shot.

I have to agree with the timing comments. Mine ran like crap even though the timing was "perfect" according to the marks and the light. After adjusting it by ear without the light, the car runs great so I suppose the marks are off on mine.

BTW, I run Mobil 93 octane with a shot of Outlaw octane boost.
