Back in 1984 I bought and as parts what was left of a 69 corvette coupe, in the front suspension parts still all attached was the front rotors and calipers, calipers being the J56 type with the supports still in place. My question is is there anyone or anyplace where one can get the answer as to what this particular coupe left the factory as? All I have to go on is what I know I got and the VIN of the car. I know that there must be out there someone smarter than I am about corvettes and I am asking for help here. The other things I know is that the car came from New Mexico and it was gold in color when it left the factory and it was an automatic car because of the brake pedal still in place. Any help??!! Anyone!

L88 Package special features:
Light- weight aluminum engine/radiator
850 CFM carburetor
Solid lifters
Oversized valves
12:1 compression ratio
Transistor ignition
Heavy duty suspension
Larger brakes
M22 “Rock Crusher” 4-speed

I've never heard of an automatic L88.

I believe you are right, I have tried running the complete VIN search and got nothing. That is why I have come here to this forum. Thank you.

I believe there were 17 or so L88's built with auto trans for 1969.

A search using the complete VIN of the car might turn up some results.

Bingo:

1969 Chevrolet Corvette L88 Coupe "Automatically Yours" | Classic Muscle & Modern Performance 2010 | RM AUCTIONS

"430 bhp, RPO L88 427 cu. in. <menu>• “Automatically Yours” – one of 17 produced for 1969 with an automatic transmission

• One of only 116 high performance L88 Corvettes for 1969

Do some searching there is a lot of information online.

Are you planning on restoring it?

Will consider it if I can authenticate it was an L88.
Without the engine block this could be fairly difficult.
Old photos of the stamp on the block would work also since a part of the VIN was also stamped on it.
Everything else that could indicate it being an L88 could easily have been changed.

You are right, but back in the mid 80's I don't think there was much of this going on, also why sell a bunch of parts and just throw in a few different ones in the bunch. That's I am looking for a window sticker or tanker sticker or official data from Chevrolet by VIN. Hopefully it will be available some where.

Reading above I can not tell if you have the engine or not...

If you have the engine with all the other parts then you can check the Engine Block and Head Numbers here at our "Specs Drop Down Tab" Good luck with your search..

NCRS folks may be able to shed some light on the type of calipers and other suspension dimensions for the L88 for 1969 ;)

No engine, did not get the engine when I made the purchase . Too bad huh! I got all that he had left.
