I thought I would bring those of you that are interested up to date on my DynoJet testing.

I am starting the runs out very conservatively to make sure everything is good. So far I have made 25 runs. I have already detected a problem with the fuel system that has required me to replace both fuel pumps between the first set of runs and the second set of runs.

The first group of dyno runs were with appx. 12.2 psi of boost. The best run recorded 507.93 rwhp and 604.53 rwtq.

The second group of dyno runs were with appx. 13.8 psi of boost. The best run recorded 542.5 rwhp and 687.90 rwtq.

All of these runs are SAE corrected.

As some of you might know, my previous bests were 612.77 rwhp and 774.65 rwtq. These numbers were at appx. 22 psi of unintentional boost. I say unintentional because my old method of boost control was terrible and extremely hard to control. You might be shocked at the boost level but these numbers were recorded with pump gas (94 octane) and catalytic converters. My new combination eliminates the cats. Since the 22psi runs, I have run a few leakdown tests and the numbers were less than 1%.

As part of my ongoing maintenance, I examine some of the easier plugs to get at after every few runs and all of them at the end of the boost cycle.

I have a Hallman manual boost controller coming in on Friday that I am anxious to install. I hope to start turning up the boost this weekend. This is not as simple a process as you might expect. Providing the proper amount of fuel and timing while trying to avoid detonation is quite a job.

When you are doing this kind of DynoJet testing, it really helps to have a Racepak data acquisition system. I have used a Diacom Plus for years but for whatever reason it is not linking right now. The data it records is very valuable and I miss having it.

At this point everything is looking good and running better.

Good stuff, Steve. I have a couple of ideas Im wanting to try....just need a few more $$$. Im hoping to hit the 500rwhp mark.

Steve. those are some amazing numbers for sure!

It is interesting what a difference an extra 10 lbs of boost made ;) :upthumbs

I knew someone who ran 20psi on his Turbo TA all the time - a bit crude compared to what we have for a system - I recall him cranking the threaded end @ the wastegate for more / less boost ;)

Looking forward to hearing more about your B2K :v :m

22 PSI... Wow it's nice to know it didn't lift the heads at that boost level.

Those are really nice numbers at 13.8PSI. That's right about what I run for boost but I'm at least 100 under you in HP and TRQ.

Steve - A few questions if you don't mind -

Are you still running 7.5:1 compression?

Do you run the stock cam?

What size injectors are you running?

Are you burning your own chips?

Thanks!

Kevin

Josh, what are you going to try?

Chris, thanks - and yes, 10 lbs of boost makes a HUGE difference.

Kevin, I am running an exact 7.5:1 compression. The cam is the ZZ3. The injectors are 24# Bosch, and I am burning my own chips.

Steve, I think im going to go with a largetube runner and base intake. Im shopping around for parts now. If I get Accel runners I'll probably siamese the top portion as advised to me by another member and possibly extrude hone them. We'll just see. Also considering trying out a couple of supertrapp mufflers.

Thanks for the info Steve. I'll have to compare the ZZ3 to the custom grind reverse pattern cam I have (not installed yet). I'm also running the Bosch 24# injectors. Do you know what the impact of the ZZ3 cam vs. stock was in terms of HP and TRQ? I content the stock cam leaves a lot on the table but Callaway seems to think it is "optimal". The compression was raised to 8.5:1 when the engine was rebuilt.

Maybe sometime I could chat with you offline about the chip burning. I have the equipment (from Moates website) but I haven't attempted burning chips yet. It is my believe that the current program is WAY off.

Kevin

Josh, I have a set of extrude honed large tube runners, extrude honed plenum, and extrude honed base. Give me a call if you are interested at my office.

Kevin, I never tested the stock cam vs. the ZZ3 on my dyno because I got the DynoJet way after replacing the stock cam. Whoever told you at Callaway that the stock cam is "optimal" was smoking something. I would rather chat on the phone at my office rather than through the computer. If you want, I can email you my 800 number so it doesn't cost you anything for the call.

Thanks for the offer Steve. When I get closer to doing the work I'll take you up on it. Right now the Callaway is still sleeping on the lift above my '69 Camaro drag car. Until I get that finished up I can't even get at the Callaway. So that's my priority at the moment.

I'ved used the ZZ3 cam on a 350 ci with a supercharger, and I was thrilled at how well it worked. idled like a stocker too. Now if you ever want to try a 383 with a mini ram, I've found the perfect cam for that combo.;)

Josh, I will try to send you some pics of the parts this weekend.

Any more advances with this AMAZING Callaway?? :cool :lou
I am sorry to say no - for now. I haven't gotten around to pulling the McLeod Street Twin yet - the disc's are stuck. I hope to get to it sometime around the first part of next year. I start it up every month or so just to make sure it is still running.:D

I probably shouldn't say this, but I bought a Ford GT and have been making a ton of dyno runs, etc. It is one phenomenal car!!

Chris, I am sure you are keeping busy with your Callaway's!
