Has anyone experienced differential or engine leaks on their Z06's? Just had an oil change at work and was told I had both. Called the dealership we bought the car at and she goes in tomorrow morning. Glad she is still under Factory Warranty. According to the tech they are not big leaks as I never noticed anything on the garage floor. Also, was told it would be a good idea if I got a set of lift pads. Anyone have experience with those?

Hi Donna -

There are many who have experienced seepage around the output shaft seals on the diff - not a dripping leak but seepage.

I notice that on mine the vent on the top of the diff seeps and leaves residue.

I have not heard of anyone with an engine leak though.

Jacking pucks are a nice to have feature - you cannot lift the car without them, that is without damaging the rocker panels.

I bought a set for under $60 - some have made them out of hockey pucks - I prefered the aluminum ones and paid for my haughty taste in jacking pucks.

I had differential axle seal leak on the passenger side. It was dripping fluid on the garage floor. The seal was replaced under warranty, and good thing it was because on a Z06 it's 8 hours labor. I looked at the procedure in the factory service manual and was so horrified I drove an extra 40 miles to take it to a dealer I knew had extensive Corvette experience. (Bob Stall Chevrolet in La Mesa, CA.) In fact, I interviewed them on the phone about how many they've done. The repair came out perfect, but it's complicated enough I wouldn't consider letting my car be the first one a mechanic does.

I had one at 9000mi. I also had all the syncros replaced along with all the shift forks that were bent. This is a common problem. If you go to zo6vette.com you will see how wide spread.

Got the Z06 back today. They applied sealer and tightened the bolds on the side cover and two front studs. Not happy with the repair. Seems to me that they just did a quick repair. I would think that they should have replaced the gasket. As far as the engine leak, was told to drive it for 1,000 miles then bring it back. Needless to say not happy at all. My husband is going in to have a discussion. We are going to Effingham in two weeks do not need any problems. This is not a small dealership. They sell all the GM products.

Yes, it sounds like they pretty much bailed out on you.

What could have been their justification for driving 1000 miles and then coming back, regarding the engine leak? Leaks don't magically fix themselves, do they?

I am going back and have them look at it again before we go to Effingham. The oil leak they said is near the starter. Regarding the suggestion I find another dealership. The one that is just east of my present job is the dealership that I worked at for 4 years. Their master tech and Corvette expert left about a year ago so they are not an option. We were an Olds, Nissan, Isuzu dealership but now that Olds is no longer, we cannot do warranty work on any GM product otherwise they would be doing the warranty work. There is a Chevy dealership south of us, but my son-in-law just took his Blazer in there and paid over $900 for a brake job then complained to me. We would have done that cheaper but he is a Cop in that town and it was a convenience for him. Soo I don't have any options right now. My husband did tell them that we would be going to Effingham and there are usually Engineers there and he would be discussing the repair or lack thereof.

Drive and see what happens--they might have tightned something and bring back in 1000 miles--look yourself and see if leaking-

Getting ceramic brake pads put on at work today. Going to have the Tech it out. Already have put the 1,000 miles.

I don't have a Z06, but did have a leak around the starter. The 'Vette was in for about 2 weeks the summer before last for a blown clutch....don't ask me how it happened, it's a long story. Anyway since they were replacing the bell housing, I told them to fix the oil leak. They replaced the rear main seal and it continued to leak. They replaced the oil pan ($600 for the part) Five times due to defective/damaged parts being sent to them. The last oil pan had to be visually inspected before it was hand packed. It turned out that the GM mechanics manual at the dealership incorrectly indicated that the rear-main-seal can be installed without dropping the oil pan. There is a revision to the procedure your mechanic should be aware of. The oil pan had been damaged by another dealership when it was owned by the previous owner. GM chipped in for the repair even though it wasn't under warranty. - Ron
