Leaning C4

My 1987 (lowered by previous owners) coupe has developed a lean to the drivers side, could this be worn rear shocks or some other suspension hardware failure or maybe a matter of adjusting the lowering bolts?

first the shocks have nothing to do with the problem.ya might have have the rear suspension bolt nut backed off.dont know about the front but it is suspension component related.probably not the composit spring as it works evenly L/R.

Take a good look at your springs. Are they delaminating, or showing any signs of deterioration?

The 1987 model year is now fourteen years old. Parts will start showing signs of age, and springs will weaken. There are also many chemicals that cause premature failure of the composite springs; one must be careful of what one uses when cleaning in that area.

Old deteriorated rubber bushings will cause an uneven, or lowered stance as well.

I just looked under my rear end and discovered that the drivers side top of my spring has a small cut. The layers are all in tact with the exception of that very small area. Almost every post i've read has said that any cut or seperation requires a change. How bad should a spring be before you chabge it?

Sounds like it's time for a change-out. Any time the spring starts delaminating, it will continue to degrade until it's worthless. It could be dangerous as well if it collapsed.

I have no idea. Labor rates vary, as well as the seller's markup on parts.

I just did this on my 90 a few months ago,Spring cost me 90.00(used) Most run 80-150.00 I know a guy so I got a very nice one fairly cheap.I replaced it myself it was very easy and didn't take 20 minutes,Jack,Stands creeper and a few sockets its a easy swap.

The rear spring change-out is relatively easy; the front's a whole different ballgame.
