Leather-Like or Real Cow?

It's time to rehide my L-81 and I'm curious as to what current opinion is on leather-like versus real leather seat covers. Is it worth the extra $300 for the real deal? I read one thread that suggests that the Leather-like rips at the seams...

This car is not an NCRS type Corvette, just an occassional daily driver. I have experience with real leather but not leather-like. Is the fake stuff close enough to the real thing? And is all leather-like the same or do different vendors use different grades?

Kdlp: I installed the leather like seat covers on my 73 about 2 years ago. I was very pleased with the seat covers. The covers fit really nice they feel more like vinyl than leather but are a little more soft than Vinyl. I didnt want to spend the extra money for leather either. All in All I am very pleased with them they have held up very nicely. I dont much care for leather too so that and the extra cost was enough for me to go with the Leather Like. KDLP, i used leather-like in my vette, it has 80 model seat in it. i choose the L/L for a couple of reasons. first the cost is much better esp since mine is a driver ,not a show car. secondly with the sealing issues of the t-tops. i don't worry so much about moisture getting on the seats. i would be freakin' if they were leather.
e-mail me and i'll send you pics of the seats if you need to see. WILCOX has been the best priced supplier, you can find their sales on ebay all the time. mine were $135+shipping.

Leather Yes

If you had a Vega the cheap seats would be fine, but a Corvette needs the best if you ask me. Spend the extra and you and your Vette will love it for a long time. Plus the smell of new leather seats is wonderful. And have them installed by a pro. Some things you can skimp on but something like the seats, something you'll see and sit on every time you drive. Your Vette is worth the extra cash.

Just the seat and back area where real Leather!!! The side bolsters where vinyl
Most original Leather seats, esp. the drivers seat, rip along the seam between the Leather and Vinyl bolster :eek

Just a little trivia for the hard core

I found an upholstery shop here in Modesto that says it has the silver vinyl, but haven't been able to find it yet but when they do they said they can replace the bolster on Rare and have her seats looking new again.. Reminds me I should give them a call let them know I'm still alive and waiting :J
