Left Rear Wheel

I was told by a friend riding behind my Z06 that the left rear wheel looked like it was at an angle and riding on the outside of the tire. Check and low and behold the outside of the rear tire is wearing not a lot but there is some wear. I have never felt any vibrations. I check the right side and it was normal. These tires only have between 3500 and 4000 miles on them. Before I take it to the chevy dealership tomorrow, has anyone had this experience or might give me a heads up on what it could possibly be wrong.

Sounds like positive camber or excessive toe on the left rear wheel!! Did you have it aliened when you put the tires on it??:upthumbs
 
No. I did have an alignment about 3 months ago before I got new tires. I had new tires put on by the same people (who are recommend by tire rack) on our C4 but never had problems with that car. Guess either C5's or Z06's are more sensitive.

I always have an alignment done when I replace tires - especially expensive Corvette tires. ;)

BTW Junk... how often would you recommend having the alignment checked? The GY runflats are too expensive to take chances on uneven wear.

It kinda depends on what kind of roads you run on,I check mine about every 10-12,000 miles!! But I've not turned a bolt or nut in 25,000 miles other than the Drain plug and Oil Filter!!:upthumbs
 
This was our first tire replacement on this car. Factory tires only lasted 21000 miles.

I agree with GMJunkie this sounds like an alignment issue. the design of the C5 Corvette rear suspension has a cam type adjuster that can actually slip if not tightened properly or if the alignment you pointed out (done 3 months ago) was done improperly at that point. The first starting point is bring the car to a known reputable alignment shop in your area (I can't help you here!). Not all alignment shops are "Corvette friendly" and this is really a key issue with the alignment. One more thought- when you have an alignment done with the "old tires" on the car and then switch over to new "sneakers" old tires take a wear set and can be quite different from new tires. As stated, it is best to get the alignment done with the new tires on. However, if the camber/caster on the tire is so obvious that it can be seen as being really off, my thought is the alignment cam slipped which is an easy correction on the alignment rack!

Make sure you tell the align guy to TORQUE the adjuster nuts to spec. Most just use a spanner or gun them on.
