Well I went looking for the Part No. for the oil filter used or recomended for the 502 BB ...But...Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!! freaken Part No.!!!

Every Part No. for the 502 is listed on the sheet except ..the Oil Filter..!!!

I'd like to use a 1 quart filter instead of the 1/2 Quart Geo Metro filer they stick on the new complete 502 motors... WTF were they thinking...

Anyway there Bob.. What kind of filter are you using on Heavens 502???

And of course anyone else with a 502 or 454...chime in..

I need to change my oil..now..

Thanks..:beer

on Bob's website he has listed that he is using an AC Delco PF-1218C oil filter.
http://www.computersupport.ca/Restoration/Engine.htm go about 3/4 the way down the page on the righthand side

hope this helps.

Heh Thanks Barry,
I was going to go out to his site later ..but you beat me to it. Thanks for taking the time to research that.

So Bob.. if your reading this ..how did you arrive at that Part No. Is it in fact recomended by the General as the 1 quart replacement? or did you just brain storm that part no. from a Delco book by ..............Heh...this looks like it'll screw on.....and well...it didn't blow up when I hit 80lbs of oil pressure ..so it must be correct....:L

The Kid..just told me he's using a PH-13 on his ZZ454/440 and has no expolsions..yet..

:beer

I have been doing some research and found out that the BB 502 come with a PF454 shorty oil filter.. The Full quart Version is the PF-35..if you still can find one.

In speaking with the GM Parts guy/part time drag racer..he informed me that the PF-1218C oil filter has a valve built in the filter to bost oil pressure. This filter was designed for the truck motor application for towing and hauling.

He sugggested NOT using this filter as it will raise the pressure to much for a passenger car application... Or in other words "Hi Blood Pressure.."

Ok...let the War Games Begin.....Heaven?????.....:L

oh no........... why do I all of a sudden feel like I'm the one that started this war since I'm the one that mentioned what Heaven had listed on his site?

When will I learn to keep my big mouth shut.................? ;LOL

:L ...Yeah....sorta like when you did something bad as a kid and Mom told you..

Just wait till your Father gets home.. Boy..are you gonna get it......

Now ..you have to wait for Bob to get on and see the post... and spank you...;LOL

Mark, the only difference in that is............. some adults LIKED to be spanked! ;LOL

The PF-1218C is the same size as the old '67 canister filter. The more oil the better. I'm running a total of 6.6 litres (5.8 Imperial quarts or 7 U.S. quarts :crazy) with the big filter and the Moroso pan.

I believe the PF-1218 replaces the PF35. I have no idea what the C means..........maybe Canada. :gap

P.S. And since this ZZ-502 really hauls, I guess that meets the criteria of your parts guy/part time drag racer. ;LOL

Well ok there Mr. Hi pressure oil guy... Don't bother checking weather or not the oil filter has a valve inside or not. Or maybe there is a possability that this could hurt your motor. Heh who cares if your oil pressure goes over 80lbl. And do you think that you gauge from 1967 is accurate...... So It reads 75lbs......Oh Sure ..it's 75lbs...Then you hear this funny sound could that have been the rear main seal at 5500 rpm's....So what if all 6.6 litres (5.8 Imperial quarts or 7 U.S. quarts :crazy) with the big filter spew's out under the car and all over your fatty rear tires and you dounut about the Canadian Landscape.

Not to mention a visit from the EPA boys and an order to impound the 67 Heaven for spilling oil all over the place. About the only thing good about that is that us Americans will at least have a chance to get some work cleaning up the oil spill..

So sure....go ahead and make fun of the lowly PF-1218...With The "C" For Canada........

Ok...Captain Hazelwood :L

Thats what I found in my research about a year ago. Can get the 1218 at Auto Zone etc. Doesn't hold an entire quart though.

If your EPA boys dare to step across the border, I'll have Mac show them to the nearest exit. ;LOL

When I purchased my motor it came with no instructions at all.I emailed gm performance parts tecnical center and they emailed me a start up procedurefor my motor that included the part number for a replacement oil filter. I will check on my work computer to see if I have it there.

Good luck

Not in your lifetime - there isn't an oil filter on the planet that has a valve to increase oil pressure. Only two things determine oil pressure - pump output and bearing clearances. What he's talking about (but apparently doesn't know it) is a check valve so the oil doesn't drain out of the filter with the engine off if it's mounted with the bottom of the filter at or above horizontal. Quite common these days with oil filters on newer engines stuffed into small spaces at all manner of odd angles - usually costs about a buck more than a conventional oil filter.

Ferrari has had them for over 40 years - they mounted (dual) oil filters upside-down on top of the engine for easy access, and those filters had built-in check valves (Fram PH2804-1). When I used to change the oil in my Ferraris, the locals would gather around to watch the "glug-glug" and flood of oil all over the engine when I unscrewed the filters - didn't happen - unscrewed the filters, didn't dribble a drop, and they were amazed. Then they got amazed again when I poured twelve quarts of oil in it and they looked under the car to see where it was running out ;LOL

I hear yah John.. I didn't believe him either. I was just stiring up the mud and beating the drums to get the Boy's worked up..:D I also bought a bunch of AC PF-1218's for the 502......

I would have loved to see the look on the faces as the 12th quart went in ..:L
