Dumb question:

When you replace the cam, you need to replace the lifters. These are
the valve lifters? I am looking up parts and the only "lifters" I find are not
under camshaft but under valvetrain. They are like $24 for my car, is that
in the right ball park?

Yes, they would be listed under "valvetrain" components. ;)

As for estimating the cost of lifters, you're talking to the wrong guy; I can't get a deal on anything! :cry

Ken,

How many lifters are there in the LT1? I am wondering if the $24 is for 1 lifter
and maybe I need 8? Any Idea what a set of them cost for your car (can't be
that different)

the price is a little cheep I pay $2.00 ea for a flat hyd. but your 93 uses a roller cam and thoes lifters are around $300. a set. and you should replace the cam & lifters as a set too. It isn't mandatory with roller cams but it's a good idea. It is mandatory for flat tappets.

There are 16 lifters (2 per cylinder). and vets4-2 is correct in that you have a roller cam, so they won't be cheap. It is always recommended that you change the lifters when you change a cam. Most cam manufacturers won't warranty the cam unless you change the lifters too. You'll have to shop around, most of the aftermarket cam folks (Comp Cams, Crane, etc.) sell OEM style lifters, but they won't come cheap. But they'll probably be cheaper than buying them from GM.

I do this for a living and have swapped many roller cams and used the old factory rollers just check the roller for pitting if it is smooth it is ok just check with the mfg and see if they are compatable some have the oil groove machined differently because of the lift of the cam only my 2 cents steve :w :beer :_rock
