I would like to lift the body off my '68 to detail/restore chassis this winter and would like to know what are the good books or publications that can help me with this. I want to leave the body together as much as possible. Thanks.

The books by Nolan Adams would be a great help and there are videos. I found several checklists on the internet by searching for "lifting a corvette body". Get the AIM for your car. Stock up on catalogs from the various vendors advertising on this site and look through their book section.

I lifted my body off a 74 coupe alone after building my own crane.

I am about ready to lift the body off of my'78 in the next few weeks. I ordered Nolan Adams video on Body Lift from Corvette Central. The video also comes with a check list which is pretty helpful. Mid America, Ecklers, and Paddock also offer this. Another good book to get is 'Chevrolet Restoration Guide' by Lindsay Porter. I got this book from a Barnes & Noble bookstore, but I believe you can order it from Ecklers....etc. My question is how is the best way lift the body, using a crane or hydraulic lift? and how much does a C3 body weigh?

If you search this site for my posts I have asked these questions and others. About 2000 lb I am told. Need about 10 friends to lift it off. I built my own crane and used a 3 ton chainfall with my own body lift set up so that I could do it my leisure. I read of many stories where the commercial lift slings might slip causing the body to tilt and fall. I used chains and angle irons with hooks similar to the slings. The chains were 3/8 rated for the load and the angle iron was used as a spreader bar to keep the hooks from sliding together. After disconnecting everything it took about 1 hour to raise the body, roll the chassis out from underneath, put the body on the flat bed trailer and roll the chassis back in.

Any pics Yamafan?

Won't have 10 friends to help so it'll just be me and my fiance (actually wife by that time)
