OH-kay...
Got the AC fixed.
Now, I'm hitting the accelerator and notice my brake light comes on. Ummmmm.... Just had new rotors and pads put on last year. Don't drive the Vette every minute of every day, so...
I noticed the pedal getting a little hard when applying the brakes, but I attributed that to the HOT weather here in Mississippi. And maybe I hadn't broken the brakes in good enough.
Well, the hard brake pedal and the brake light coming on not soon afterwards happened today (on a day not in the 90s too) and I drove the car home and parked it.
A few hours later I go out to move the Vette up into the driveway. Cranked it up, put my foot on the brake pedal to shift from park to reverse and the pedal goes all the way to the floorboard!!!! :eek Now THAT'LL give you a woman-looks-up-in-the-movie-and-sees-the-monster-moment!!!!!

Checked the master cylinder reservoir and the level was right on the money. Checked the wheel wells and side B of tires and saw no leakage spray. Lines looked good---gunky, but good as in no rips, tears or damage of any kind.

What's left? Air in the brakes lines? Still. Good thing I was in my driveway and not uhm..., 'autobahning' on the interstate, huh? YIKES!
Help please! Thanky!!! :Steer

If the brake pedal is difficult to step on; it's the power booster. You usually hear some sort of hissing sound when the booster fails. The booster is the circular unit between the master cylinder and the fire wall. Check the connections to make sure everything is connected correctly. If I recall correctly; the boosters are made of plastic and the heat under the hood could shorten it's life span. They're about $150.

If the pedal goes all the way down without any resistance, it's the master cylinder. Master cylinders run roughly $150 or so.

Maybe you should bleed the brakes. I was taught to bleed the one furthest away; meaning the rear passenger side.

Try this test. When you apply the brakes lightly does the pedal keep going down and then bottom out? If it does, look for puddles running out of the calipers. If there's no puddles, or bulging flex lines, then your master cylinder has probably blown an o-ring on the piston. Your brake trouble light will come on when it bottoms out, and will stay on until proper pressure is restored. It will also stay on if there is air in the lines.

Master cyl if pedal goes to the floor. Brake light comming on is another indication of the same. Three times in my driving career I had the pedal go to the floor. It is a let down feeling. Replacing the MC always did the trick. If you do it yourself, please follow the instructions on purging the MC before it's put in the car. Good Luck.
