Washing the car Sunday with the keys partially in the ignition when that click-horn toot teels you she's safely locked and armed against intruders. Yikes! I have spares made by the previous owner upon locking himself out a day before selling and transporting here. He spent $150

I put both hands on the roof, shook it twice and 'click'. It really works. Learned that trick here. So if you boo boo and leave the keys in the car don't get a rock and smash a window, just nudge the alarm awake.

If for some unknown reason shaking the car doesn't work, don't try using a wire to fish inside the door (guaranteed to cause damage). Instead, use the wire to poke the key fob and wake up the system.

Good to know...thx :)

The PKE is not supposed to lock it down within a certain radius, like 4 or 5 feet. It's the first time it happened. It must have just wanted to play during its bath like my dawg.

Tim,

If the fob was asleep the car didn't know it was within the 5' or 6' radius. I believe the fob only transmits it's signal while it is in motion and for a short time after. This is to maximize battery life. After it goes to sleep the car has no idea where the fob is. I've done this with my car as well. If I leave the keys in it, it will lock itself.

OK. Thx JR. Many people hate this feature in our later C4s. I look at my Expedition Keyless Entry like it's low tech and needy. With the PKE I'm simply too cool.

I actually "practice" doing this on occasion, with the window rolled down of course. :D
