Since I bought my 92 vert the brake pedal has been rock hard. Recently sometimes the pedal would feel soft. On a recent outing the pedal has gone to being very long. Still stops and pumping the pedal does not firm it up. I am thinking a vacum problem. Any thoughts on where to start looking?

AND

Wipe your finger on the bottom of the master .. where it mates to the booster.. finger wet.. BIG TROUBLE.

What COLOR is the brake fluid?

Not one valid excuse in all that. Good to see you back Bro, missed ya. At least I see all the plastic cars are still yours, you have a male judge or what? You still doing the same work thing? Still got that 327 block or did you drop it in one of those Camaro's? Damn Bro, it's great to see you back.
Ladies and Gentlemen, brace yourselves and pay CLOSE attention, you're in for a treat and a wealth of old school and electrical knowledge.

If you mean vacuum booster, typically when the booster starts to leak, the pedal hardens because pedal effort gets higher.

First, take John Robinson's and vigman's advice.

If you don't find a problem there, then I'd bled the system per the service manual. Don't forget the ABS prime pipe, if that applies to a 92. If you haven't flushed the brakes in the last three years, do a flush of the system per the FSM. Then road test.

If soft pedal persists then I'd consider a problematic master brake cyl.

had some similar problems. the seals were getting "weak" in the mc and eventually, they gave out. usually, a hard pedal=vacuum booster or check valve fault (could also be a vacuum leak in the hose supplying vacuum to it), soft or spongy pedal=air in the lines, leaking calipers or flex lines at the calipers.

check fluid levels, check fittings at the m/c, look closely where the m/c bolts up to the brake booster as this is a favorite spot to leak and if it is leaking there, you need to replace it as soon as possible as the brake fluid will eventually find it's way into the booster and take that out also. remove wheels and ck the calipers and flex lines.

I had this problem in my '90. Turns out the vaccuum booster cracked on the underside closest to the firewall. Couldn't actually see the crack with it bolted up, but you could feel it with your fingers.
