If you like the car and have been looking at others just write the check!!!! On a Vette with that kind a clock on it you really cant lose. I see some rats that are selling between 7-10k.Lets all be honest with each other...When we sell our cars we always want top dollar. When we buy something we want it for next to nothing!!!! Purchasing a Vette like you are describing is like investing in stock that may not appreciate in value but will have you appreciating it every time you turn the key. The c4's were like a wine. As they grew older Chevy fermented the process and they became better cars. The 86 got the TPI (started in 85) and got the ABS too. Let us know if the deal goes thru....dont lose the car for a few $$$$ if you like it that much. Yes, sometimes low miles may not be the best thing and sometimes high miles may not be to good too. Instrument clusters, steering columns, VATS and other things on c4's aint cheap!!!

Mike, sounds good I hope you get it. I really don't think you can go wrong. Had I found something like that when I was looking I probably would have bought it too.

I can only speak from personal experience from having an 86 4+3 Z51. Does this car your interested in have the RPO Z51? If so try not to let it get away, but I wouldn't pay 12K for it. I agree with WHALE, take 10K with you and some spare $100's. Although, the "how bad you want it" factor will throw all logic out the window. I don't think you'll regret buying it. It's a fun car to drive.

Thanks guys, I agree with everything you've added. I made the 95 offer and will take a few extra 100s all cash, but not much more. the info I've collected here makes me think I'm right on. I don't feel cheap and I don't feel like a fool. Not sure about the Z51 option, but I did see Bilstein shocks. Don't hold back any last minute thoughts. I'll keep you up to date. Thanks again.

Mike

The market is what you're willing to pay. Good luck, hope the deal goes through for ya, and thanks for the corrections guys :w

Anything yet?? I have had a '86 and know what the down sides are (which all were covered already). I think that I would go $10,000.00 and change if I had too. This car sounds sweet. It is no ultra quick machine, but it is still a nice corvette. You being a mechanic would know if it was abused or had other issues (flood, washed title, etc) It is the Spring and the market is heating up for Vette's. What else could you buy for around $10,000.00 that you could have fun with and resell for the same price if you get bored?? Be careful, if you do not buy it I will hunt it down and grab it up!!

Good Luck!!

CP ;)

Mike, have you driven a a 92+ LT1. The money that you are spending could put you in the lower LT1 price range and while I love my 87 it is no comparison to my 93 LT1 6spd. The newer car tops it all around, ride, handling and most defiantly in acceleration

Brianjt1987,

That is exactly the idea that supported my lower offer on this 86. There are many newer cars with great features not costing much more. I may not even budge on the offer I made.

Thanks

Mike

I have been watching the want adds this spring for C4s , am I mistaken or are the C4 prices higher than last spring ?
:w

C4s can run the gamut for a decent driver from around five grand, to excellent examples such as described here for the price mentioned. I would think that if the car's in as good of a condition as you described, Mike, ten grand isn't too far out of hand. Your offer just might satisfy the seller. Good luck! :w

Of course, you will have to replace the tires seeing as how they're so old - age does more harm than wear, but you already know that. Same thing with seals, bushings, etc.. But if it's pretty and it's the one you want, the pride of ownership will ease the pain of repair costs. ;)

The car did not meet its reserve on E-Bay and the seller will not return my calls (typical E-Bayer). He must have sold it at the Manhiem Auction or to another bidder. I wanted a '90 anyway!! Find me a nice red or black, auto, low mile 1990-96 PLEASE!!!

CP :W

Magoo, BUY IT!!!! If you don't I will. Well, would like to anyway. It sounds like a good deal. I paid $10k for almost the same car with 50k miles. It's an auto trans and a host of options. Same color as the one you are looking at. Let us know what happens.

Jim

Jim,
Thanks for weighing in. I'm gonna give it one more try tomorrow. I guess I'll go 11k but I'm still not sure that will buy it. I think 11.5k will. I did find out yesterday that it has the Z51 handling package. I guess thats a plus. Thanks again,

Mike

You could find an early LT-1, maybe a 93-94 for that price. But it's going to be a high mileage car close to 100k. If that one is as clean as you say it is, 4+3 with the Z-51, that is a car that I wouldn't pass up.

Sounds like you found a really sweet car. I say: Go for it! :upthumbs

I have seen a lot of older C4s with a heck of a lot more mileage go for a lot more money! :confused

Let us know what happens!

Save The Wave! :w

I got it. Thanks all. (see new post "bought 86 cp.")

Mike

I bought 1986 for $7000.00 needed a little work but its fine now. I'd look around a little more, you could do better.

While you're test driving it, remember that those tires are probably rotten.

If this car is cherry, maybe $9,000. You're gonna spend a couple of grand on tires and exhaust, not to mention probably having to re-fluid the whole shebang.

You didn't mention manual or automatic tranny.

That just sounds like a lot of bucks for an 86.

Not sure this is the place for this but I am selling my 90 coupe,auto,2top,FX-4,Bose CD Original White EXTERIOR,Black NEAR PERFECT Int.,ALWAYS IN A HEATED GARAGE, I would rate this car a 7-7.5 on a scale of 10 EVERYTHING WORKS AS IT SHOULD!!!!!!!!! REAL NICE DRIVER!!!!!! $ 10,500 FIRM!!!! E-mail me AT DRAGS1998@aol.com I will return e mails ASAP Time for a C-5!!!!!
